High traffic tech blog looking for a sales/marketing guru

Hello all,

I started a personal blog years ago to share my experiences in the IT field. Since then, I opened it up to others and have built a business around finding writers, editing and publishing high-quality tutorial content. The blog is primarily tech tutorials in the IT, cloud and DevOps space.

The blog is currently gets around 450K users/month and 700K page views/monthly. It’s growing by around 50K users/month due to our seven posts/week publishing schedule.

I’d love to find someone to help me sell advertising, come up with monetization ideas for the blog and become a member of my small 3-person team. I’m an introvert that loves building systems and creating content. I hate selling.

Any extroverted sales/marketing peeps out there that knows how to speak tech and talk to tech vendors interested in helping?

impressive distribution channel created adam, have you explored affiliate programs? where your visitors largely may be purchasers of the IT, cloud and devops space products, of which you are doing tutorials about.

I'm interested. Just sent you an email.

    Hey Adam,

First up just wanted to say congrats on 450k users / month. That's a huge number and as someone currently getting my own tech career content site off the ground, it's super inspiring.

I think in terms of monetization, I've been quite interested to read about sites like KeyValues and SelectSoftwareReviews that monetize through their content itself. They offer a "content as a service" model where value is generated by bringing together interested buyers and sellers (in KeyValues's case, the buyers are job seekers and the sellers are employers) and then taking a small portion of that value generated.

Since you operate in the IT field, you already have access to high quality traffic in the form of tech professionals. Why not partner with companies looking to hire these professionals and monetize via a traditional jobs board, niched down to the cloud, dev ops space? You've already done the hard part which is the traffic.

BTW - mind if I email you about tips on growing my own content site? I'd be especially interested in learning more about how you were able to maintain a high level of quality content whilst allowing others to post on the site.

Thank you! I will definitely check out KeyValues and SelectSoftwareReviews. It's funny you bring up jobs because I went down that road before but just let it die simply because all of my time is focused on the content side right now. I wish I could build a job marketplace but I just can't at the moment.

Sure. Email away! The short answer to your question is heavy editing. :)

Hi Adam, congratulations on growing such an audience!

Do you already have an email list built up?

With such a volume of traffic, it shouldn’t be too hard to monetize.

One way you could do it...and this may sound obnoxiously simple but... If I were you I would focus on one particular problem the audience is having and develop a software solution for that problem. Then sell a subscription for that software.

If you don’t have any developers on the team who could handle such a project, there are plenty on here who struggle with getting traffic.

Perhaps you could team up with one of them?

If you need help with sales/marketing feel free to reach out to me.

    Warm regards,
    Mateo

Thanks! I'm already monetizing via display ads. I'm ~$25K/month now.

I've built this blog as a content business and have a web dev on my team so I'm good there. I'm not looking to build a product at least at this time.

At this time, I just need help taking advantage of other monetization opportunities based on my traffic such as advertising.

Have you already tried the marketplaces or publishing ad ops companies?
paved/thoughtleaders/buysellads might work well for your size site.

I have not. This area is brand new to me. What do you mean by "paved/thoughtleaders/buysellads"?

Thanks for mentioning them. I've created a publisher account on those platforms. It's worth a shot to see what they're all about.
