How did you get your first 100 subscribers?

Two rules!

  1. Providing value is the key.
  2. Content distribution is the king.

Workflow

My strategy was to have a content workflow in place. I focus highly on repurposing content on multiple platforms to get maximum exposure.

The gist

I started blogging - http://ngninja.com/
I created Instagram following - https://www.instagram.com/ranjana.ban/
I started tweeting - https://twitter.com/ng_real_ninja
I started posting on dev.to blog - https://dev.to/ng_real_ninja

Protip

Focus on one platform first. Master it. Then move on to others.

My future plan

Create the content on Tiktok and YouTube.

Question

How did you get yours?

I'm due to write up a product update about this as my community building newsletter recently hit 100 subscribers.

    • I set up a single page with useful resources
    • added my newsletter sign up to there
    • tweeted a few times
    • shared on LinkedIn a few times
    • I hang out on a couple of community slacks and a FB groups, participating and occassionally sharing the link where relevant
    • first 15 or so newsletters were completely automated via RSS from blogs, websites, podcasts and things I had stumbledupon that I had collected on weekly basis.
    • now I manually curate the newsletter, it is better formatted

Now, reality check: it took 6 months to get to 100.

It makes me laugh, but I'm in no rush, and really it's a way to force me to learn more about the community building world and network with others.

I'm starting to get recognsied more (never had the time in the past), been invited to speak on an online thing and had compliments that people love the newsletter.

Overall I feel like it is providing value, so I'm happy.
