How do Indie Hackers exercise?

Rock climbing.

  1. 4

    Hockey

There are a lot of old guy leagues near me where you play for an hour or so then drink beer in the parking lot. That's my kind of exercise.

    1. 1

That's really cool. I live in Wisconsin and have always wanted to try Hockey but just never got around to it. I have a brother-in-law that plays in a league and even offered to lend me a bunch of equipment. Maybe some day..... :-)

      1. 1

You should give it a shot. Around here (DC area) they usually have 5 or 6 levels in each league from total beginners on up. I didn't start playing until after college and I know many guys that started in their 30s or later.

It's also a good way to network since you get to know the guys in the league and they are often from very different industries. I play in a 40+ league now and it's fun - older guys don't make it overly competitive or hit people too hard and get people injured. It's great exercise too.

        1. 1

I was going to say, what about guys that are over 40?

The funny thing is when I was thinking about it before I went to the Pettit National Ice Center in Milwaukee for skating lessons (yea, I can't even skate backwards) and they have two rinks inside of the speed track there.

Well, while I was taking lessons there were teams out there on the rinks playing and I was like, "wow, I would get killed out there!" and that was the end of that.

          But, who knows?

  2. 4

    Running, walking, yoga, strength training.

Going to try jump ropes (cross ropes) soon.

    1. 1

Oh, that's a good one! I keep meaning to get a jump and forgetting. That's it, I'm getting one.

  3. 3

Ooh exercise is a main reason why I wanted to become independent in the first place so I could take care of my health and fitness (and beach body 😛💪). I do weights at the gym four times a week and run three times a week (up to 20 miles total for the whole week).

I'm thinking about getting some digital nomadism in, so do any digital nomads reading this have any trips on working out while traveling? I want to stay consistent and ideally have a gym so I can improve my muscle mass and keep my figure more toned than the level I'm at now, but am open to ideas in case I can't get a temporary gym pass! Like I feel that only bodyweight exercises wouldn't be enough if I'm used to weights, but correct me if I'm wrong!

    1. 2

      Wow, that's impressive!

I don't get to travel much anymore but my kids have been obsessed with "Living the Van Life" videos on YouTube so who knows, maybe I can be a Digital Nomad someday!

For bodyweight stuff, I follow this guy on Instagram: https://www.bodyweightmuscle.com/ Cool backstory, very down to earth guy.

      1. 1

this is really cool, thanks so much !!

  4. 3

Yoga every morning, it helps get me in the habit of challenging myself right away. Plus, it has had positive effects on my posture, balance, and movement.

    1. 1

Another Yoga! I really need to get into that!

  5. 3

I use a rebounder (mini trampoline) daily followed by yoga. I also incorporate some resistance exercises/body weight 3 times a week.

    1. 1

We have one of those rebounders but I've never tried it...

  6. 3

I hit the gym 5 days a week! Alternating between HIIT & weight lifting each day

    1. 1

They have some weight equipment at my climbing gym but I've also been to shy to use it. I'm pretty wimpy. :-)

      1. 1

Everyone has to start somewhere. From my experience (I go to golds gym and i would consider myself pretty wimpy too. Haha) those people who are in crazy good shape won’t judge you. Everyone starts somewhere and a lot of those health nut types are happy you’re bettering yourself. I’ve had guys who are basically bodybuilders gladly spot me. They’ll usually give me pointers on form and stuff too.

        1. 1

That is very interesting, I never thought of it that way!

Of course, when I'm normally there after work the gym is full of high school students and I bet they would judge me!!! :-)

          1. 1

Eh. They’re high school students. Teenagers hate everyone. Haha.

            1. 2

              So , so true!

To be honest, I could care less about what they think but my teenage son that I normally go with would be mortified!!!!

Hmmm, potential blackmail material? "Clean your room now or I'm going to start bench pressing in front of your high school friends with my favorite headband on!"

              1. 1

                😂😂 that’s the right attitude.

  7. 2

running 3 times per week and 2 days in the gym. Gotta keep yourself active to balance the long hours in front of the laptop.

    1. 2

Oh yea, for sure. Sitting too much has become something I'm very concerned about. "Luckily" I run around to meetings a lot but still...

  8. 2

3 days a week strength training and Tennis a few times a week.

    1. 1

I have not played Tennis in years. I used to have a court by me and would play with some friends.

Now that my kids are older I'll bet they would like that. I play raquette ball with my soon at the Y so I'm sure he would.

  9. 2

Rock climbing as well. I love it!

Otherwise I do some stretching / calisthenics every morning / evening, too. I live at the 5th floor without elevator, does it count?

You can see my habits on my profile if somebody is curious.

    1. 1

      Cool, bio!

I've been thinking a lot about my daily routine lately. I've come to realize my biggest challenge is sticking with things so I'm trying to develop stronger routines.

I've actually added Indie Hackers to my daily routine because, even though I guess that is 30 minutes a day I could spend directly on my product, I'm hoping Indie Hackers will help me stay motivated to work on my product and be a net gain in the long run.

I like the idea of like a runbook for Indie Hackers...

  10. 2

    M/W/F - 100 push-ups, 60 angled pulls on TRX, 30 ab stretches on TRX
Tu/Th - Two sets of 15 reps of various dumbbell exercises (squats, curls, etc) at 25 lbs
All five days - Various stretches. Two mile run (~18 mins)

Working from home, and working out at home, really changed my life. I'd tried various gym routines before but never got anything to stick. Switching my workouts from evening (post-work) to morning (pre-work) also really helped.

    1. 2

      Wow, super impressive!

I've noticed that switching to the Rock Climbing gym has greatly increased my time exercising. I guess because it is just more fun for me maybe and also because I love the outdoors and aspire to actually trying some of the roped climbs in Colorado that I've hiked by but could only dream about before.

  11. 2

I struggle to work without exercising now
every day i do two of run / stretch / weights

    1. 1

Does it like improve your concentration? Or just give you more energy or something?

      1. 1

        mainly concentration / creativity

        1. 1

Interesting. Just another reason to work exercise into my AM routine. I do have trouble focusing some days.

  12. 2

    Table Tennis. 🏓

I love the sport so much that I will join a regional competition starting next Monday (lowest regional divison)!

I like table tennis because it's one of those sports that you can have fun playing at any level. It looks really easy but the more you learn about it the more you realize its complexity. The most interesting part is that at the highest level, due to the high speed of play and huge amounts of spin you can put on the ball, it becomes mostly a 🧠 mental sport, where you have to get into the mind of your oponent and know what he will do before he does it. 🤯

I also did 20-30 push-ups each morning and 5 minutes of 9kg dumbbell lifting in the evening for the past 30 days, but my wrists started hurting a bit so I'm taking a break to prepare for the table tennis competition. Once I made that a habbit it was actually pretty hard to stop, like my body wanted that exercise each day.

    1. 2

OMG! I wasn't even thinking about Ping Pong when I posted this but I also love it!

It is funny because my wife bought a table on Craig's list one day. I'm not even sure what made her think of it. But my son and I started playing like everyday. And I was suprised how much better we got! Like, we had to clean out part of the basement and move the table to give ourselves more room as we start returning the ball harder.

Then for Christmas we got these new paddles from Killerspin and it made it almost like a whole new game! We constantly experiment with new spin shots and serves.

Anyway, yea, Ping Pong rocks!!! :-)

      1. 1

That's so nice of your wife! Sounds like a fun family time.

Changing the opponent also makes it feel like a new game each time. Every player has his own style, strengths and weaknesses. Doing the exact same movement against one player might not work against another.

As for the bats, I recently got my first custom made bat (buy rubbers and blade separately and glue them together). I felt like a beginner again when starting with it as it didn't allow for all the mistakes the previous bat did, it forced me to make the correct movements.

Top table tennis players in the world even design their own blades, like the number of wood sheets in it or if and where the carbon layer in the blade is.

The more you get into table tennis the more you fall in love with every small layer of complexity.

        1. 1

Oh wow, I never even thought about custom paddles.

And yes, a couple of families from Church that come over like to play too and we have some pretty epic battles! Everybody defiantly has their own play style!

Do you know, do tables make much of a difference?

          1. 1

As soon as you go past the beginner level at most clubs people usually get custom bats to fit their playstyle. They are not cheap though, they in the $100-$500 range depending on the brands and models you choose. Premade bats are usually considered good only for hobby players and beginners, even though I had a cheap 35eur Palio Expert 2 bat which was surprsingly good for a premade bat.

As long as the table is the correct size, straight and the ball bounces as expected it should be fine.

But tables do differ based on material/texture, on some the ball bounced faster, or with more spin, but at my level I can't tell the difference between tables.

There are other factors that affect play at high level, for example top players choose their playstyle even based on the hummidity of the air. In more humid air the ball and bats get more spinny or faster/slower.

This happens in table tennis and not many other sports because the ball is so light and rubbers so grippy that every little detail can have a big impact.

            1. 1

I never would have guessed there is so much too it!

I shouldn't be surprised though. That is a common pattern I see... the more you start to master something the more you realize you don't know about it. Kind of a paradox, right?

Take online starts-ups for example. The sheer volume and depth of things to consider, learn and master is staggering. Honestly, I think that is what draws me to it. I want to figure it all out! It's like the worlds most complex algorithm or something!

  13. 2

Gym. 5x a week. Using my app https://trackmylift.app to track my lifts. (Slowly coming back to Indiehackers... I've been out for a few months due to personal reasons!!

    1. 1

Cool, I'll have to check it out!

I wonder if there are any like rock climbing apps to track progress, I never even considered it.

  14. 2

Weightlifting for 20 minutes a few days a week, and long walks as well.

    1. 1

Walks are great. I love hiking too. I do a lot here in Wisconsin, even when it is freezing!

  15. 2

Basketball Mon/Wed and weight lifting Tues/Fri and sometimes yoga one day on the weekend. I always try to get my workout in somewhere between 6am-8am. I've experimented with mid-day exercises and evening exercises (does not work at all if you have kids) and I've found that getting it done in the morning works the best for me. It makes me feel accomplished and it gives me momentum to start my day.

    1. 2

Yes, I've been on myself about lifting first thing in the morning for years. And I have actually starting a new routine of getting up at 5:30am every morning.

Problem is, I honestly feel like a zombie when I wake up. Like, all I can really do is get in the shower. I'm hoping that if I can keep up the routine long enough I will start feeling better and have the energy to lift first and then shower!

      1. 1

I've found it hard to get motivation to wake up too. Making it a routine has definitely helped. Not eating too late is also a big one for me. If I eat or snack late I find that it's harder for me to get going in the morning

        1. 1

I'll have to pay more attention to my eating habits.

I've also noticed in the past that if I stick to going to bed at the exact same time every night then getting up at the same time does get easier. Go figure! 8-)

  16. 2

    Rock Climbing & Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

    1. 1

Oh man, Jiu-Jitsu looks awesome! I was in Tae Kwon Do for a couple of years. Made it to High Blue and then took a break. Kept having nagging injuries but want to pick it back up eventually.

      1. 1

It is awesome, definitely a tough one though. This week I am two lessons out of three in and feel like I was destroyed in each one.

I did Tae Kwon Do as a kid, same belt as you - think it was rather a McDojo though, wish I'd done it at a more professional place.

        1. 1

I had the opposite experience! My kids started first and then I mainly joined to support them. I thought it was going to be like, just kind of silly. I mean, I'm pretty wimpy now but did play football in high school so I figure, how hard could my kids TKD class be?

Well, really, really hard as it turns out!!! :-0

I swear, it was border line dangerous. I think part of it was timing, I just started at the same time with a couple of new guys who were really strong but no technique. Those are the worst because they don't know how to control it. I got bruised ribs like every night, kicked clean off my feet a couple of times, kicked in the head, punched in the face, etc....

But, I did stick with it for like two years and actually improved a lot until nagging injuries just wore me out. Constant hip flexer issues, tweaked my back a couple of times, bad knee. So I took a break and switched to rock climbing.

I'm pretty stubborn though and I want to go back to finish my Black Belt. I want to get into a lifting routine and Yoga to prepare better this time though. Hopefully avoid the nagging injuries.

          1. 1

Ah man, you definitely had it differently to me. Part of me wishes I had that experience as a kid, it would have toughened me up a bit sooner and I would have had some better knowledge but I think knowing myself at the time I would not have stuck it out.

  17. 2

Yoga and exercises on the mat (push-ups, abs, etc.)

    1. 1

I need start Yoga, badly. I think better core strength and flexibility would really improve my climbing.

      1. 1

Definitely, I practiced Yoga while I was doing Thai Boxe and it improved my flexibility a lot. Yoga helps in many ways, today I practice it for lowering my stress level and it works well, I sleep better and my stress-related issues are mitigated a lot.

        1. 1

Okay, there is another reason to do Yoga! I've started getting some kind of stress headaches at work sometimes and I never used to. Not really serious yet but worries me a little.

So , wow, I think you guys have me convinced to start Yoga!!!

            1. 1

I said "stress" headaches but I think "tension" headaches would be more accurate.

I mentioned it to a co-worked who is my age and she knew exactly what I was talking about. She suggested: yoga, deep tissue massage, and swimming.

The swimming suggestion surprised me but kind of makes sense I think. She said it was very therapeutic for her. I have a Y membership a barely use so maybe I'll give it a try!

              1. 1

Yeah I understand what you mean, I feel the same tension sensation, and yes massages really help, they are so great, especially Thai style massages, they unknot (if this word exists in English 😅) your muscles

                1. 1

It is so weird. It is one of those things that if I wasn't having them and somebody else told me about it I would be skeptical. And I never used to get them or consider myself somebody who gets "stressed out."

But, I'm getting them so maybe I will check out the massages.

I guess when you factor in a full time job, family, side product, etc I'm probably under more stress than I even realize.

  18. 2

I used to do indoor rock climbing as well but I haven't got around to it in a while.

I have a small home gym which I use first thing each morning* for around 15-30 minutes. I've also recently been trying out Ring Fit Adventure on the Nintendo Switch which is quite fun too.

    • I don't generally recommend exercise 7 days a week, but I do so for medical reasons.
    1. 1

Watch Free Solo, that will get you back in the climbing gym! :-)

I figure if Alex can free solo El Capitan then I can achieve at least $1 MRR right?

      1. 1

I watched it a while ago :) - it's very inspirational, but also absolutely terrifying!

        1. 1

Oh, for sure! My son and I were laughing at each other because we knew how it ended and still could barely watch!

I've done some Class 3 and 4 "scrambling" in Colorado and seen enough exposure to know that some of those pitch's are just insane to even thinking about doing. Even with a rope! 8-)

  19. 1

IT is a good thing, but when It comes to the sport I guess the sport is better since they can give me a lot of pleasure for me and my health. Yes, indeed I am trying to train a lot and since there are a lot of products that can help, I have decided to use a glycerol pre-workout pump since it can give me some hydration & endurance, it even increases muscle pump. What about you guys? Do you guys use some things that are close to my way? I believe it's better to use it and if you want to learn more about https://alphawolfnutrition.com/glycerol/ feel free to do so...

  20. 1

weights with 20 min Pilates warm up 3 days a week. And running after my toddlers everyday 😬

  21. 1

I swim religiously between 3-5 times a week. Although it can be tough to find a pool when you're traveling outside of bigger cities. Not a big fan of open water swimming because of apparent danger to it.

Other than that i've tried to go to the gym more often but i just end up paying for going once a month (which makes it a pretty expensive subscription...). Maybe i just need to find a new routine.

  22. 1

Mostly all alone, which sucks. I need friends!

    1. 1

Hmmm.... is that an opportunity for an Indy Hack? Like, could you build meetup type app to allow people to find other people to work out with?

I could use something like that for finding climbing partners. Hard to belay yourself! :-)

  23. 1

Short body weight exercise routines, daily. Dabbled with apps (10m workout and such) to get the habit formed, but now a few years in I've moved to doing ladders of a few exercises, trying to work up to 10 rounds.

    1. 1

I tried a couple of apps back when the app store was new and I was downloading apps constantly. I downloaded a bunch of those kind of apps where you work your way up to like 100 pushups a day or something.

I do want to start lifting and just do some simple progressions or something.

      1. 1

Yeah, ton of apps out there, most are pretty much garbage for long term use IMHO. Lack of variety of exercises and stuff, but for somebody approaching it to learn some new exercises, there's definitely a ton of value of using an app for a bit or just doing additional research.

I've done the 100 push ups apps and have never really felt like I got anything out of it (reads: I would start to struggle pretty bad 2 weeks in). I really loved doing the 30 day plank challenge though, hard as all heck, but actually felt like I got something out of it (read more here: https://joshtronic.com/2016/12/11/i-survived-the-30-day-plank-challenge/)

Right now I'm switching between doing ladders (1 rep, 2 reps, up to X then back down) of pushups and sit-ups/crunches and just trying to do as many reps as I can in a row up to my age. Short term goal is to work my way up to 10 rounds (1->10->1) which ends up being 100 reps... curious to see if I'm able to get there without the rigidity of using an app, and just trying to push myself a bit more each day.

        1. 1

Yea, that is very similar to where I am at. I just need to pick a couple of basic movements and start doing something! :-)

The one kind of specialty exercise I do want to add to the mix is using a hang board. Hang boards are used by rock climbers to increase their grip strength. I've gotten to a level in the gym (5.10) where I've really started to hit a wall (no pun intended :-) ) because of a lack of grip strength.

  24. 1

If I feel the urge for physical activity I spin in my office chair and flap my arms.

    1. 1

I so need a better office chair!!! :-)

  25. 1

I have a gym in my basement.
    Includes:

    • A treadmill (currently training for a marathon and I do 16/8 fasting)
      -Free weights
      -Jumping ropes
      -yoga mat
-A screen with p90x and insanity videos
      -A punching bag
      -A pull up bar
    1. 2

I have a bunch of those videos too. I tried the P90X ones and they were so hard I couldn't even do them. I mean, I could kind of do them but no where near what they were doing.

Especially the workout where he just starts killing sets of pull-ups. I mean, I can do like one pull up!!!

I did like the disk with the core workout though. I could do most of that one. In fact, I need to dig that out, would be great for rock climbing. And I think there was a yoga disk he did too.

UPDATE: Now that I am rocking climbing I can do like three pull ups! :-)

      1. 1

I like the yoga cd and core. not a big fan of the pullups, I try to do as many as i can. The one I definitly dont like is where you have your back on the wall and squat like till ur legs burn!!! I wanna do rock climbing, it is on my bucket list!!!

  26. 1

Soccer 4 to 5 times a week when in San Diego. When on the road weightlifting and treadmill. A long hike every weekend.

    1. 1

My son played soccer this year and I enjoyed watching it way more than I thought I would. It really looks like a lot of fun to play.

I've also thought many times that Rugby looks super fun too. But I don't know, that might be a little crazy at my age?

  27. 1

Weightlifting x4 times per week and try to walk as much as possible.

    1. 1

I do a lot of walking too. Especially in the warmer months when I can walk at lunch time. Which in Wisconsin is like three months a year. ;-)

      1. 1

        In Belfast it's 3 days a year! 😂

        1. 1

          lol!

Okay, it sounds like you need to upvote my thread to have an Indie Hackers hoodie added to the store! ;-)

          https://www.indiehackers.com/post/please-add-hoodies-2637a612ba

  28. 1

Baseline is a daily, intense, fifteen-minute home workout using household equipment (e.g. pull-up bar, push-up bars, etc.) and body weight.

If I'm working from home I'll use a laptop projector stand to roam around from window to window throughout the day.

And if time permits later in the afternoon or evening, I'll go to the gym and lift heavy weights or go for a jog.

(Also a fan of cold showers, but that's a little off topic.)

    1. 1

Okay, that laptop stand is a super cool idea, I never thought of that! I think my birthday list just got a little longer... :-)

To take things off topic even further, I read once that Reinhold Messner, one of the best mountaineers to ever live, would practice tying various climbing knots in the pitch dark in a freezing cold shower. He wanted his training to really prepare him for the worst conditions he might have to face.

I have also read that cold showers are great for increased energy!

      1. 2

A rarely discussed [1] benefit of cold water immersion is that it creates a guaranteed flow state provided you do it voluntarily and manage to last at least 15 seconds or so. All of your biological resources get diverted to surviving the threat of the cold water, and your mind goes blank. No more worrying about yesterday's mistakes, tomorrow's challenges, or today's inadequacies — instead all the unconscious mechanisms of your mind force you to intensely and exclusively focus on the present threat.

There are less painful ways to enter into flow, but none that I know of that are 99% reliable.

Why does this matter? Not only is flow state useful for doing other things more effectively, like working out, hacking on a project, learning something new, etc., but it's also one of the five kinds of experience — engagement (with a small helping of achievement on the side) — that positive psychologists consider to be good for their own sake.

        ---

[1] Probably because it would be difficult (i.e. expensive) to demonstrate scientifically.

        1. 1

Okay, this is super fascinating. I geek out on "alternative" forms of health and wellness but I've never come across this before. ( I put alternative in quotes because a lot of the information I came across is considered alternative but actually makes perfect sense to me. But I digress...)

Are you able to achieve this in a cold shower? I'm assuming you must. What about like full immersion? My wife and I considered doing one of these "Polar Bear Plunges" on New Year's Day. They have them all along Lake Michigan here in Wisconsin but we wimped out. :-)

Cool! Would this work for hiking and backpacking or would there be better apps for that? I keep meaning to find a new app to track those activities.

The app I use now stores everything locally and I lost like a years worth of trips recently due to a phone disaster. I think there is an export option somewhere but I really need one that is cloud based.

For me I just started doing 5am mornings. I really like going to fitness classes, because it's easier for me to push myself harder when I have an instructor telling me I can't stop. I have a membership at the Y, and I also have ClassPass so I can try different classes.

    1. 1

I have a Y membership too that I am really underutilizing. They have all the body pump classes that I can take. I think the earliest one is at 5:00 or 5:30. That might actually be something I should more seriously consider!

I did body pump years ago and it was really good. Harder than it looks! "That barbell only has like 10 pounds on it!" he said about 15 minutes before collapsing into a pile of jello.

      1. 1

Yep! That’s me! 5:30am BodyPump. By 6am I’m absolutely dead inside.

Do you mean like, spin class and fishing? Or like fly fishing?

    Road cycling and occasionally lifting

    1. 1

Do you ever do the virtual cycling? I have a couple of friends that are pretty hard core cyclists and since the off season is so long here they both do the virtual rides too.

Plus, I've noticed that a lot of climbers also cycle. Probably a good combination of upper and lower body workouts.

      1. 1

        Sorry for the late reply.

I do, yes. I try to take two months off and then start building base fitness in january. I don't use Zwift though, I prefer TrainerRoad, it's more performance oriented.

I think climbing is great. I'm thinking of quitting with gym and start either climbing or swimming.

        1. 1

I was just talking to one of my cycling friends and swimming actually came up. He used to be an avid swimmer but gave that up. Mostly for logistical reasons.

But, one thing I was concerned about and that he confirmed was that the chlorine in the pool was a growing concern for him. But that may not be a concern for others.

I would recommend visiting a climbing gym and just giving it a try. With the auto belay devices that most gyms have now anybody can try it out very easily and safely.

If you don't like, no big investment lost in equipment or anything.

Usually variations of HIIT (High intensity interval training) workouts

    1. 1

Is HIIT training where you do like just a very short workout but really go 100% One of my IT / hiking buddies started a routine where he lifts for like seven minutes a day or something and I could tell it made a difference.

      1. 1

Exactly! Usually I do 30 minute workouts with no rest. Gets me in and out of the gym quickly and is great for cardiovascular health.

  32. 1

p90x program 2-3 times per week, just pick training which I feel right for me today (generally yoga, chest/back, legs/back)

    1. 1

Do you do the pull-ups? That was the video that killed me. Really liked the Yoga and Core videos from that series.

      1. 1

        Yes, I do.

You can adjust it to your intencity level by changing reps count and using a chair.

        1. 2

Yep. I started using a chair recently and doing "negative" reps where I would lower myself slowly. They hurt so bad they must have been doing something, right? :-)

Also, just the other night I tried using some bands and I think I liked that better. It allowed me to do a lot more more reps and also didn't feel like I was stressing my joints so badly.

When I was doing the negative reps I was afraid I was going to injure myself.

Rock climbing, tennis, kiteboarding, occasional workouts at home (pushups, pullups, pistol squats, crunches)

    1. 1

That is the first kiteboarding on here! Is that done on water?

I've seen that they make small sails for Kayaks that looks awesome but I guess that is totally different.

    1. 1

Do you ever do any of those Tough Mudder or Spartan races? I signed up for Tough Mudder once but tweaked my knee training for it and then decided to skip.

    Tai Chi & Qi Gong

    1. 1

Tai Chi is the discipline where the movements are very slow and deliberate right? Almost like a mix of Martial Arts and Yoga?

I'll bet it's harder than it looks. For TKD we had to do a series of "Poomsae" moves for each belt test and to really get good at it was so much harder than you would think it could possibly be!

      1. 1

Tai Chi is a form of martial art. Depending on which movements you practice it may look like more yoga than a martial art.

True! It is harder than it looks.

        1. 1

I actually went for a long hike in the snow today with a good friend and this came up because we talk about health stuff a lot.

We were talking about the pros and cons of returning to TKD and in the end we decided it was the high impact nature of the sport that was wearing me out.

So I was thinking I should try something like Tai Chi to get a lot of the same benefits without the beating.

          1. 1

I personally started maybe a little bit less a year ago. So far it is going very well. I feel like my flexibility is getting better.

I'm not a yoga person so Tai Chi is a better fit for me.

There are lots of videos out there. My personal preference is https://www.youtube.com/user/ShaolinTempleEU , they have pretty helpful videos to get started.

            1. 1

              Awesome, thank you!
