How do the points work?

So, I just joined IH, and I ran into an issue-- I don't know how to use points or what they are! Do you think maybe somebody could post the answer on the Start Here page or somewhere newer people can see?

Say something nice to Frostfire…

You get points from people upvoting your comments and posts. They don't do much, but will do more in the future. Currently, they just serve as a gate to prevent brand new members with tiny amounts of points from doing certain things that spammers could abuse.
