Hi!
Q for you guys - how do you create the newsletter elevator pitch when you cover multiple topics?
Background - in January I started a newsletter called Startup Goodness that covers the intersection of branding and business in HRVA (Hampton Roads, Virginia).
What I want to focus on is longer-form articles and practical application of branding and marketing for startups and small businesses, covering everything from why one of the local coffeeshops is nailing Instagram to a long-overdue celebration of the OG companies that laid the groundwork for our area’s latest jump in startup activity.
Question is - how do I condense that into a specific, compelling elevator pitch when it covers such a wide swath of topics?
Thanks!
Here's the February Issue if you’d like to take a peek. Any other feedback is welcome too!
I’m behind Virtual Mojito Live, I felt the same when I first started.
My newsletter covers virtual event, online community and remote working.
So my approach is to identify one thing in common, and obvious it’s all about “online & virtual experience”
So that’s how I go about it. 20 episodes :)
Thank you, Felix!
I apologize on the delayed response.
I used this framing system and it really helped.
Also the site for Virtual Mojito is frickin fantastic, I love it!
I always think it's useful to try framing it more like a value proposition (what does your newsletter do for it's readers), rather than a simple explanation about what your newsletter is.
Who are your readers and what do they get out of being a subscriber? What does your newsletter enable your subscribers to do? How does it serve their interests or solve their problems?
That's always more of a compelling pitch that is easy to understand, regardless of who you're speaking to (and it's also a great framing exercise for creating a good landing page that converts).
Thank you! This is really helpful.
