How do you make decisions about your branding?

I've been having some really fascinating conversations with founders recently about how they decide on brand assets like logo, colours, illustration or icon style, even tone of voice.

I discovered that it's mostly a mix of :

  1. What competitors are doing
  2. Brands the founder teams like (whether they have anything to do with the product or not)
  3. Personal taste

The most successful brand teams I've worked with have a set of Objective Measurement Criteria (although they may call it something else) which creates a set of rules defined by the company's objectives and audience, rather than internal team preference.

I'd love to know if anyone here has other things they'd like to add, or whether they have a different set of parameters to make these sorts of decisions?

If this is something your team is struggling to agree on, I might be able to help :) Feel free to drop me an email and let's chat!

Agreed with what you said yourself. And when you (and your team) are hesitating between several great ideas, A/B testing to see what idea is more likely to work the best with your customers

This is a great insight thank you for sharing!
