Just wanted to know how are you currently doing Contact Forms / Email Submissions / Lead Gen Form etc for a Static Websites?
Because yesterday I soft-launched 😍 my Side Project called https://web3forms.com/ where you can setup contact forms easily without any backend server.
Would you use my product? If no, why?
Thanks in advance for your feedback. 🙏
In the hero HTML example I see that the API key is publicly exposed to the client. Isn't this a security problem, where someone else could steal the key?
Its actually not a secret API key, its actually an Access key to securely hide your email.
Think it as a reCaptcha Public Key
I understand, my concern was that someone else could use the key on a random form on the web and I will start receiving spam emails, but I guess this is more of a spam-detection issue that it is with the API key being public.
To be honest, nobody can stop spam, but I'll see if I can do something like whitelist domain to prevent it.
I would like to recommend you use https://fabform.io to save your static web site contact form to our intelligent forms backend service. No code required. There is a free tier available too.
With Gridsome I'm using Netlify Forms.
Tangent but nice website design.
A small idea: Could you integrate with Google Sheets or OneDrive's Excel to save entries there? It's too old and tradition style to save entries via emails.
Is there a real use case for listing in google sheets? For eg: Some customers asks questions, doubts like that. What you do with those data later?
I have everything on Wordpress now but in the past I have used FormKeep for this.
Nice. How do you handle email deliverability in WordPress? If used default, it could end up in spam. right?
I am actually looking to switch to a static contact form from the Tawk.to chat widget. How do you handle spam?
Currently it uses Honeypot but the reCaptcha integration is under development.
I signed-up, I see there are no examples on your page, having a copy-paste snippet that adds a contact-button in the bottom-right of the website that opens the form (like the chat widget) would be nice.
That’s a great idea and I really thought of adding the same kind of example, however since it provides an API end point, you could easily style as you needed and make it work. That’s the main specialty as it works with any design and dev tools.
Yeah, I understand this is what I'm doing atm, but it takes time to implement:
It would be really useful to just have one example on your site that has all of those, it's a lot easier to start with one that already has those things and just style it than implementing all of them from start.
I will probably switch to your pro plan if it works well, even though I won't have 1000 submissions (I assume per year? or in total?).
Sure, will be adding few examples before I launch it.
It's a good solution, but I already use Netlify Forms with Gatsby so I wouldn't use it. Since I do my hosting there it's all in one place and setup is just as easy.
Also, what makes your service different from FormSpree?
Yesterday another maker commented how hard was it to setup netlify forms, so I guess there is still a place for this for those who need an alternative or dont want to use netlify.
Currently the free plan is so generous than any other competitor. So it would be a good USP I guess.
Also, currently its in Beta Stage, so the first 100 beta users pre-ordering PRO version will get a whooping 80% discount.
