How do you track your writing word count?

I've been using excel and sheets for a number of years but I'm looking for something that will either A) integrate to Medium/WP/other platforms and count for me or B) make the experience of using sheets better.

=LEN(A1)
counts the characters in A1

=COUNTA(SPLIT(A1, " "))
counts the words in A1

  Yeah - across all my platforms. So I write a newsletter on Ghost, articles on Medium, etc. I usually enter the total word count from each article into a sheet so I can see my writing totals for each month/year. But is there a tool that will do this automatically? Like a browser plugin or something?
