How many of your projects have you been a target persona for?

I recently pondered about how for most of my projects, I haven't gone through a lengthy validation phase because I have mostly been an end-user for the apps I create.

This is not to say that getting customer feedback and validation isn't important even for ideas for which you are a target persona.

I was just wondering how common it is to indie hack on an idea for a product that you personally won't use vs one that you will.

What percentage of your indie hacking ideas have you been a target persona for?
  1. 0%
  2. 25%
  3. 50%
  4. 75%
  5. 100%

Roll Your Tweet, was a way for me to spitefully build a project for people who use Twitter Threads without a blog post.

I absolutely hate threads and would rather read it in a long form that doesn’t cut off every 280 characters

    So 100%

In my opinion, if you want to create a buzz in the marketplace you should definitely work on creating buyer personas.

You may be the ideal customer as you said but you need to approach the topic more holistically and put your thoughts on paper to find out how this persona could fit with your content, marketing strategies, etc.

I found this article that could help you with exactly that if you want to take a look:

Great point! I love writing personas and even if I'm building a product for myself, I try to describe myself as a user persona because I see clearly why I want this product to exist.

Here's an example, although please excuse if it looks like the website hasn't been updated in a while, because it hasn't XD

I voted 100%, but I wish there was something in between 75% and 100%.

My first major project, Price2Spy was something that I made for my needs in the first place and then expanded it.

    Similar thing happened with JustLikeAPI.

Lastly, I started developing BotMeNot that comes as a logical continuation of my previous 2 projects (but much more related to Price2Spy).

Why I said that I wish there was an option for something in between 75% and 100% is that I do have some other projects that are not in the same scope as these three. Nevertheless, I still think my current position is closer to 100% than 75%.

I totally agree with you about there being an option between 75 and 100. I posted a comment as soon as I realized.

Thank you for sharing your projects! You earned a new follow :D

    Good question, very thought provoking.
I voted 100%, maybe this is my problem, I've long thought myself somewhat outside of mainstream, if that's the case, maybe I'm limiting my audience.

    1. 2

I think it’s probably not, things usually go mainstream because a small audience really care about them and they help get it there.

I realize that 100% may not have been the best choice for the last poll option, so maybe consider it 90+%

I love how this community has a blend of ambition for money and pursuit of passion.

Creating software for family members that are enthusiastic about what you're creating is one of the most fulfilling experiences I've had in life.
