How much does your business/project spend on existing SaaS?

"If it is not part of your core offering, it is better to outsource than to run your own" is one of these maxims that certainly make sense for small companies that are short of time and want to focus on improving their product instead of setting up their own infrastructure.

Due to this reasoning, it is easy for companies to start using different SaaS offerings to handle some part of their operations instead of having an employee allocation some of its paid time to deal with things.

I am wondering though how much this actually costs for small teams and people running side-projects. How much and what type of SaaS are you using and how much are spending per/user. I am sure that I am missing a lot, but it seems that there are so many services considered "essential" nowadays that I wonder if there is ever a tipping point where it makes sense to look for open/free alternatives.

Some examples of SaaS:

  • Code repository hosting (github/gitlab)
  • Project Management/Issue Tracking (Trello Free or Business, Jira?)
  • Online Office Suite (Google Docs?)
  • E-mail marketing platforms (Mailgun, Sendgrid)
  • Content Publishing / CMS (Contentful, Medium Pro?)
  • Design Collaboration Tools (Invision/Figma)
  • Customer Support
  • Social Media Management
  • Messaging / Conferencing (Slack, Zoom?)

The list is far from comprehensive.

How much are you/your team spending on SaaS per month? (US Dollars)
  1. < $ 5.00
  2. $5 - $25
  3. $25 - $100
  4. $100 - $250
  5. > $250
