How my small < 100 follower Twitter is super engaging

I wanted to write something about my new twitter account.

I've only been actively using Twitter for the last 6 or so weeks and since then its grown quite a lot (for a small account).

Key learnings:

  1. Don't Tweet A Lot

Despite people saying tweet a lot, I only tweet when I have something (I believe to be) profoundly valuable to add or very interesting to me.

  1. Quote Tweet

You will notice that the majority of my tweets are quote tweets of accounts with 'major' following. I try to add context or value to the conversation by trying to stand out to the author of the tweet. If the tweet has a lot of quote tweets then I'd reply if not, then I'd quote tweet. I would also try to hold a conversation with them if appropriate. After engaging like this a few times with a number of their tweets over a week , I'd then follow them. There is a higher chance that they will then follow you back.

  1. Use Your Community

If you are an active member of a community and you've built up rapport then leverage that and cross it over to Twitter, this is how you will grow!

I have used my community to help push me on twitter (not in an obvious , pesky way). Some community members that I'm friendly with have large accounts and have engaged heavily with my content (because it's me AND because its value).

These are the biggest take aways I've had from doing Twitter actively for about a month. I'm excited to see how it'll grow over the next few months. If I continue at this pace, it's gonna be exciting!

Thanks @mooraage this is good info. I've been on Twitter for a while using it in a way that didn't seem very productive. I've been seeing a few others doing similar to your points and it looks to be a much more* useful and mentally healthy path.

Right now I'm clearing out follows of people who I think are entertaining but not someone I would interact with. Next is to follow more relevant accounts. How did you go about finding people to follow that post often on topics you're interested in?

      Thank you for reading!

I started following people I've seen post interesting things here and people I already knew in the communities on Slack etc that I was actively particupating in. Then of course they start to retweet pther interesting people amd I build on from there. Indiehacker account is a great place to start from!

Do you have some insight to share about the first advice? Of course it's better to have good quality and engagement rich tweets, but doesn't the Twitter alghoritm punish those who tweet rarely?

This is where your understanding of your followers interest align with what you tweet. If you know something will resonate with your followers then they will engage with it.

Look at my last tweet as an example. I tweeted about how IH has been impactful to me. This resonated with a number of people and got some engagement.

Thanks for sharing this. Been wanting to use Twitter as a viable channel for my business, but haven't had the time to do so. This should be useful.

Cross-pollinating from communities to Twitter is a great idea 🗝.

Agreed. it’s not about quantity, it’s about quality.

Yeah, it's all about having a few influencers, otherwise your mom, dad, and 98 ex girlfriends would not be super engaging. Unfortunately I don't have any influencer connections yet for www.locospartygame.net... wanna be the first? Reply on twitter: https://twitter.com/ArchieUnicorn
