How should I approach selling my services to other software companies

Hello Indie hackers,

I am working on a product which comes under developer tools category. I will be selling my product services to other software companies. I have no idea how should I reach out to other software companies.
I want to figure out the marketing strategy for my product. Can you guys please give me some pointers to get started.

    Ok two approaches.

The first is go online where your target user goes to read content, contribute posts and learn new info. That might be LinkedIn groups, dev websites, etc. Try to get visibility by posting and asking for users to try your product for free. This will get you your initial validation and awareness.

The second is to connect with people on LI that you think would be a good user and send them a simple message in the connection request that you’ve developed a new tool that could be really helpful for “x” and would they be willing to try it for free.

  2. 2

Talk to them. All your target audience use LinkedIn, trust me. Please, please, please don’t use an approach like this:

What does it do? how is it delivered? who is the company would want it? eng./managment/C level?... Who has the problem this solves? what are the alternatives? do people look for this issue?...

    1. 1

It is a tool which used for writing e2e tests.

This tool will be available as a desktop application.

I think all small and medium software companies can get benefited by using this tool.

I have worked in three organisations so far in each of those company I have seen management investing countless hours in building regressions suites which are not adding any value at the end.

I did some market research I haven't found any alternatives which are similar in functionality.

Do you already have a landing/sales/webpage?
Should I keep digging with the questions to qualify the audience?
Like the base question is would bigger or small companies like it? so when you say desktop, windows? mac?... does the testing base on a specific programming language? framework? or executable? docker container? Does it also help with the CI integration? which?

Is the focus specifically on regression testing? who from your experience cares about this type of testing? who actually implements? and who has budget approvals? (might be different people that you would need to talk to with different messages all for one sale if the org. is bigger)
Is it best for people starting out these types of tests the first time? or ongoing after having an initial setup?...

The more you can have a specific target the easier, relatively it would be to get the people that might care...

Thank you for your help. I will try to address all these queries before I launch my product.
Currently I am thinking of following sublimetext editor business model.

  4. 1

What’s the price point? Is it per user or can it only be used by the org as a whole? Saas or On-prem? How did you think of the tool?

    1. 1

I want to sell one license per one organisation. License fee will vary based on the no of devs using that tool.
The tool solves many of the pain points in e2e testing.

      1. 1

So if it differs on number of devs, would you consider that per user pricing?

Also, what is ballpark pricing to start? I think you have a few different approaches based on price.

        1. 1

This might vary but currently I am looking at 750$ dollar per license and under each license 5 devs can access the tool.
