How should I call this feature?

I'm working on something you might call a blogging platform. Think Medium with custom domains and themes.

Except that it's not only about writing stories, but more like a platform for content creators. On launch you will be able to also add your podcast there, and eventually I'd like to add more features such as selling digital assets, etc.

Users are able to create as many "blogs" as they want. Each with their own domain. Instead of calling those "blogs" I called them "channels" since it makes more sense that this is a lot more than writing blog posts.

Someone mentioned that "channel" sounds like a Youtube channel and that maybe I should just use "blog" since everyone already knows what that is. That would make it easier for the marketing.

I also considered simply using "website" as everyone knows a website is just a place with a domain you put content.

IH what do you think? Maybe it doesn't matter at all?

Edit:

I've removed the poll.

Edit 2:

:/ Apparently the poll can't be removed....

    Hi Pier,
I understand your frustration. But I guess no word exist for this exact use case. The terms that come to my mind are:

    • domain. I guess the blogs, podcasts that are for the same blog/channel/website will share a single domain? It can make sense to use this word
    • space (contenful, confluence, etc.). Or variation of it: like workspace, you can imagine "ContentSpace", etc.
    • project (or product)
    • website or just "site". I found that by removing the "web" to just "site" make it more generic.

Hope it helps in your brainstorming :)

      Thanks for your ideas!

Yeah, and since I'd like this to be accessible to non tech people, I feel it's crucial they "get it" just from skimming the marketing material.

A channel/site/etc can have as many domains as you'd like, but you can create as many channels as you wish too.

The problem is that domain is a technical term. If you ask non tech people many do not have a clue what a domain is.

For me it doesn't quite fit as a blog or a channel. It of course is a website, but what isn't? I know you wanna narrow the possibilities rather than increment them but what about space? :D

      Thanks for the suggestion.

"Space" to me sounds like each user has its own space, like some sort of virtual desktop. I want to emphasize that you can have multiple "spaces" and also that each "space" can have domains and be a thing where you can publish content. I don't think "space" conveys that. Maybe it's because it reminds me of MySpace :)

Yeah, I kinda forgot about myspace already.
What I had in mind was Confluence:

Pages are stored in spaces – workspaces where you can collaborate on work and keep all your content organized. It’s best to group related content together in the same space, but you can create as many or as few spaces as your team needs. For example, one marketing team might keep all of its work in one space, with a page for each campaign, while another might set up a separate space for every single campaign. Each space comes with an overview (or homepage) and a blog, so it’s easy to share updates and announcements with your whole team.

          That makes more sense!

Do you have any other suggestions?
