How The Newsette went from a bootstrapped Mailchimp product to a million-dollar operation

I’ve been doing a lot of research into email newsletters (started my own in late August), and I came across this interesting Business Insider article on the growth tactics used by The Newsette.

The daily newsletter is free for subscribers, but netted $1.1 million just in September alone; the biz model is based on product placement with brand partners like Amazon and Michael Kors.

Interesting! Hats off to them for finding what seems like a new monetization channel.

A lot of newsletters have brand partnerships, but I was pretty surprised that she netted $1.1 million in one month based on an audience of ~500,000! (By comparison, TheSkimm, which has a similar target readership, reaches 7 million.)
