How to balance multiple experiments?

If you are working on multiple experiments, how do you go about balancing your time between them?

I've got a couple of experiments I'm running at the same time, hoping to see traction on one of them.

If you've done this before, what is/was your strategy?

Just to be clear: by "experiments" I assume you mean projects/products? If so, I'm constantly juggling multiple projects.

An oversimplified version of how I balance them is this:

    1. Every week, I identify the projects I'll be working on. Typically I'll limit this to about 5 (overall, I have well over 20).
    2. I'll stack rank the projects in order of importance.
    3. I'll create time-based input requirements for each project, based on importance. For example, this week I have to devote at least 13 hours to my main project Indie Hackers. But I'll also devote a minimum of 3 hours to a lesser project: a novel I'm working on. And so on.
    4. Every day, I take a look at my progress against my weekly input requirements and decide how many hours I'm going to devote to which project for that day.

Wow, 20 is a ton. Is the novel for profit or more for artistic expression?

Profit! I landed a literary agent before Stripe acquired IH, then I tabled the writing project for a few years. Now I'm adding it back into the mix.

      Great details, thanks @channingallen!

Yes, I was mostly thinking about projects or products when I wrote "experiments".

I'm working on a couple of products in an early stage so I was hoping to avoid the discussion revolving around whether we should be working on a single product vs multiple. I thought the term "experiment" might avoid that path, but I realize now it wasn't very clear!

Thanks again for your thoughtful reply.
