I know how to build a simple CRUD website.
Most SaaS projects I saw on indie hackers are done by founders that have had previous experience or done work in the field they are building for their current SaaS.
Conclusion #1 - if you want to build a SaaS, build it for something you know.
Conclusion #2 - (a) You must have experience and (not a must if you got (a)) you must have experience with the technology/complexity you're building for (b).
How (as a junior) can I build an actual SaaS if I don't have experience in any specific tech field?
Talk to users. Interview 100 people in a field/industry. By the time you get through 100 hours of talking to people, you'll figure out a problem you can solve.
Even though I run a newsletter I still emailed 100 other newsletters to see if they had the same problem as me. I'm building hypeletter.com
If you're worried about technical problems, my suggestion would be to seek out a mentor on somewhere like mentorcruise.com so you have a "dedicated" person you can go to for challenges (could even be product, design etc challenges).
I'm mentoring a couple of people working on side projects and this seems to be working well for them - most of all i think it helps get them over the barrier of being worried that it might be too difficult for them. Having someone on your side that has been through some / most / all of it really seems to help motivation.
Building a SaaS is entrepreneurship on hard mode.
On a podcast interview with @julian he said ecomm and mobile apps are much easier.
Figure out what your goal is first, then decide what you want to do.
Just watched it. Ecommerce and Mobile apps are not really what i want to do. My goal is to build a SaaS and get monthly revenue.
ecomm and mobile apps give monthly revenue.
You can also invest the money from them.
Maybe they do, but that's such a general statement to make..
Anyhow, I don't know much about mobile app development to begin with.
And for ecomm I don't think it's a good time to start with, or that is my direction for a saas.
Ecomm is booming from what i heard.
App development is still just development.
No one questioned my assumptions, it would have been interesting to see what I would have done if they did.
My guess is you like SaaS because that is all you hear about it is all the hype, I get it I created https://versoly.com/ we help SaaS companies create their marketing sites.
I just think there must be an easier way than to grind and sacrifice so much for 2-3 years.
