How to Build in Public and Differentiate Yourself as a Writer/Founder?

1/ Tell the truth each day

Instead of focusing on the end product, focus on sharing the process of creating the product. This will attract people who share the same values and interests.

How do you do that?

  • Share your process (Screenshots, update on the work, etc)
  • Celebrate small wins, whether big or small
  • Articulate roadblocks the company is facing and how to overcome them
  • Give insight into largely unknown aspects of the company/product
  • Share “sneak peeks” and vague product updates for things to come
  • Post screenshots of internal Slack messages showcasing company culture

2/ Your Story is Your Distribution

If you’re building a product for, you should also be working on the distribution and marketing of that product.

Share your first draft.

Share your journey.

Build a community around your product.

That’s building in public.
