How To Discover Potential Customers

Hi Indie Hackers,

Don't you think it's a hard task to find potential customers? Where are they? How can you find them?

I've recently pre-launched Upblogr, a managed service to host a Ghost blog & newsletter in 5 minutes. Twitter is a good starting option to find new customers so I used, from time to time, to manually search for keywords such as "Ghost blog", "create a newsletter", and similar. Then, I get in touch with the authors of those tweets to introduce my product.

Pretty straightforward, right? (And also especially time-consuming the fact of searching multiple times a day).

To save time, I decided to automate it with Zapier by defining a workflow where I will be notified whenever a tweet with the search term is available on Twitter. This way, I can get in touch with my potential customer very quickly.

Hope this small trick saves you some time and allows you to discover new customers and get in touch with them in a matter of minutes!

Nice technique! I use a similar marketing strategy to find initial customers & users for my projects.

I mostly source Reddit and not Twitter. It's worked really well for me to discover online communities where people are discussing product recommendations or pain points that my products could solve, as well as be "in the right place at the right time" to answer a question or helpfully point towards my site.

I've made a little MVP for making this process quick and easy. If Reddit could be a potential source of customers for you, feel free to use it. I'm planning on adding ability to save searches and set up notifications soon.

Not the main source of customers but thank you for sharing! It looks pretty good ☺️

    Nice workflow @felipecruz91

How's your Zapier workflow looks like and what did you learn from the process of getting in touch with those people?

Thanks for sharing your story :)

Twitter does work for this but takes time - I'm currently building twitMate to help with this kind of thing. It won't send DMs to potential customers so is not exactly the same but it will make sure your tweets get seen by many of them.

May I know when is this being launched?

Hopefully very soon - the important stuff (i.e. tweeting and audience management) has been running successfully in private beta for a while now. I am building the front end of the website now and hope to launch to a limited number of people after that.

If you want first dibs and a heavy discount drop me an email to [email protected] and I'll put you on the waitlist.
