It can be if he capitalize on this opportunity to actually create something meaningful like selling his product or maybe create a newsletter and do it repeatedly.
LOL - I saw that thread when he was still around 800 or so, I believe... Glad to see it has gone ballistic overnight.
But once again, this is a lesson that most of the things that work for other people are simply not repeatable. Sure someone else could come up with a funny thread that is similar, and see only a handful of followers added. Timing and luck play such a huge part.
But still, I hope it inspires someone else to come up with a pithy, funny tweet that may be the next 'Steve Lamar'... 😅
amazing power of the internet. saw it when he had like 400 followers. My reply to his tweet got like 3k likes and I had around 200k impressions on that reply itself. I can't imagine stats for the original tweet.
About the people trying to say this or that on the tweet, I would just say - people, relax :D
He basically wrote a thread covering his pitiful Twitter growth over the past few months. Ironically, the thread went viral and now he has 80x more followers. Combined humor with a situation people can relate to.
These top line metrics look nice, sure.
But is this the same as "building an audience"? my gut says no.

Selling his product is meaningful? A lot of his threads are already saying "fame has gotten into your head" and "I'm unfollowing you".
He could sell a product teaching people how to go viral on Twitter :)
You mean creating the type of product he was mocking in that viral tweet? I'm sure that will work great with his new following 😉

The power of humor is definitely underrated.
Agreed.
I was his follower #151 😁
Very fun!! Absolutely this must be on threadok.com 🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵
The power of threads!
Humor wins. People like reading fun stories. I like it :)

It was epic. I started to follow the thread on Sunday when he has like 12k followers.
Lol I saw this tweet and he was already at 2K. Good for him, was a funny thread.
I saw this thread when he was at 157. I didn’t expect this to blow up the way it did.
Twitter is weird. Self-referential humor helps.
Twitter is odd
Great, now you'll get about 100 people to see/engage with your tweet as opposed to 5.
I don't get it. He didn't say anything.
Hahahaha I love this. I'm thinking about it and then I laugh to myself. Brilliant.
This is HILARIOUS!!! Congrats to him!
Wait, how the hell did that happen?

I especially liked the meta comments he added, like he had some premonition he had landed on the One True Way for going viral.
