How to market a developer tool?
Hey! I've created Tempomat over half a year ago already, feedback of users who have bought the app has been nothing but good, every user that has bought it is very happy with the product (with the exception of some bugs which I take care of as fast as possible)
I have done 0 marketing for the product besides posting an entry on product hunt, featuring it on my twitter profile and a bit here on indie hackers, the question however is, where is the place to try to do more marketing for such a niche developer focused tool? I tried google ads but a month but got 0 conversion and stopped it after a month.
I'm not that willing to spend money but rather anything I can do on my own to promote the product, any tips would be welcomed.
Trending on Indie Hackers
Find people with similar audiences to you and teach them something.. then work your tool into that process.
Create content around your tool and rank it and get organic growth.
Create smaller free tools and launch them on ph/betalist/etc. Also, you can rank these as well.
Find tools that are complimentary to yours and cross promote each other (like you see in the newsletter feeds here)
Ask for referrals. Since your customers like your tool, they might be willing to refer their friends (especially if incentivized)
Ads -> webinar -> sale
Cold email outreach. Read everything from Stelli Efti on sales.
Affiliate marketing.
Not all of these will work for you depending on your ltv, time investment, etc.
But I’d choose one of these channels and see if it works out. Hope this stirs up some ideas.
