There's not much new for indie hackers in the article. But I found this part interesting:
[...] there is a point to it… a couple of points, in fact. I want my family to understand the business model behind these massive social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
And I want them to realise have the experience of creating something, selling it, and making money online.
This makes me think it might be fun to do some research and write an article on the "popular monetization avenues per social platform". For Twitter it may well be self-publishing ebooks. For Instagram maybe it's photobooks. For TikTok online dance workshops!
I have no idea if any of the above are any close to the reality, which is why I'd definitely be interested in an article like that.
While I agree with you that it's difficult to grow without a social following, I think the text I quoted from the article is about something else. The author clarifies it earlier in the article:
If you don’t have something to sell, then you’re the product. YOU are being sold.
That's why he's encouraging his family members to create and sell products.
Thank you Paolo. This is so great because I'm currently writing an eBook about my startup journey in the last 18 months and plan to use Gumroad. This helps a lot!
I do have a question, is it possible to not have PDF on Gumroad but rather set up some sort of webpages that are only accessible after someone pays?

I am here to give you hope.
4 months ago I had 30 twitter followers.
Last week I hit 1k in either 1 day or 2 on Gumroad, in pre-sales.
