How to tell if a person is ACTUALLY interested in your product or is just being nice?

Hi indie hackers!

We are in the validation phase with SOL75, a software to create mechanical components ready to 3D print. It's not quite like anything in the market (at least that we could find), and now we are testing the demo with potential users.

So far we have talked only with people we know, and sometimes it's kind of hard to understand if they would actually use the product or if they're just enjoying it because it's the first time they see it, or if they are just being nice.

Do you have any experience like this? What would you suggest?

Check out The Mom Test. It's a really good book which covers exactly this question.

      Thanks, didn't know it!

We're experiencing something similar with our new product. We're trying to validate, and are first talking to people we know. The feedback is good, but it's hard to say exactly because we haven't had a consistent user yet.

The other commentors have good pointers. I guess in your case and also ours, another part of it is to just let it fly and make it live, and continue validation with real users however you can.

I know it can seem difficult to dwell in ambiguity. I'm trying to deal with it as well.

I guess we are all on the same boat! Good luck!

Check out a subreddit/FB group where your potential customers are hanging out. Share your product with them and see what they have to say. You'll probably get more unwanted comments than you bargained for but there'll be plenty of good feedback too.

    ALl the best!
