I built a better Twitter analytics tool

Hi all.

For the past 5 weeks I've been building a tool for better understanding Twitter.

It's called ilo.

Why?
I got back onto Twitter properly in April this year, and have had amazing success being part of the tech/dev community and also launching some products. I found Twitter's own analytics to be a great starting point showing some metrics, but I felt really frustrated at how I couldn't dive deeper into the data.

What ilo does
The idea with ilo is to make it easy to see how each tweet is doing by tracking impressions and engagements. This makes it also easy to see which tweets have a bigger impact than others, for example, which tweets drive more profile visits, replies or retweets.

ilo also has some unique features, like Tweet Timelines, showing impressions and engagements over 24 hours (an idea borrowed from many newsletter platforms).

Earlybird deals
ilo is almost ready to launch out of alpha. Today I released earlybird pricing at $50/year or $120 lifetime. These limited deals expire tomorrow (Friday) and are available to all users. Get a deal before they are gone.

I'm planning on a proper launch next week. Hopefully pre-launch sales can help validate the product ✨

    Congratulations on the launch!

    You might be interested in checking out this problem - Analysis of social media posts of anyone, perhaps ilo could solve that too?

      Unfortunately a large chunk of the valuable data that ilo shows is "private", so only available to users who auth with Sign in with Twitter. There is no public metrics for most of the engagement types.

      Someone could easily build a tool that grabs the open metrics (like, replies, retweets) for any Twitter user, but you wouldn't be able to get impressions, profile clicks, etc. These are the key metrics for ilo.

    I'm using it and like the visual simplicity.

    Is the fee on a per acct basis, or are you able to use it for multiple twitter handles?

      Hi Brendan. Glad you like it!

      At the moment, it's one plan per account. I hope to add user switching features at some point but for this there may be a new pricing tier ($X for X accounts, for example).

        That would be ideal. A lot of folks have 1+ work accts and a personal acct...would be great to track each from the tool. (No need to merge them, though.)

          This seems like the number one request from people. Will investigate the best way to connect accounts (you'd still have sign in individually...) and I'll have to think about pricing. Sounds like a "Pro" feature to me. What do you think?

            It's def something people would pay more for.

            I keep my ilo tab open all the time, so having to sign in for each acct isn't really a hassle. (Being able to switch back and forth as you can with the twitter app on the desktop would be really slick, but not required.) I guess the challenge is allowing a user to have more than one instance.

    It looks very promising. I'd like to take a look at it. What are your plans for the near future? What else do you want to build in? Can you throw us a candy?

      Hey Stefan! Plans for the near future are a public launch and building out some more metrics. I am also starting on a "benchmarks" tool which will let you compare your own data against other accounts, to help give your metrics some context.

      The best way to try ilo is to just sign up :) It's totally free until September 16, when I turn on the regular paid plans.

    That's neat, it would be nice for me if I knew someone working on such a tool. This is what's on my terminal right now, I've been tinkering with the Twitter API to come up with a similar solution not the analytics but more of a comparison tool. But I'm glad to see this great execution. I also like the "open startup" touch. I wonder if you build this upon API v2 or v1?

      ilo is built on a mix of the v1 and v2 APIs. I have changed up the data part of ilo a lot during the alpha. It was really useful opening early and having real data to test different approaches with! I'm guessing as v2 will become more comprehensive, I'll be able to move off v1 completely.

      Your tool looks cool! What is your use case for that?

        I was using a library called Tweepy that's why I asked if v2 offers more and I'm missing anything.

        I can't describe what it's useful for, yet. I'm still trying to figure out what should I measure. Which metrics would give insights for a successful growth strategy. For now I'm not sure if it's possible just by looking at the numbers but well we'll see.

        Anyways I didn't mean to digress. If you don't mind, I have a suggestion. I wonder if it would be better to give some more demo dashboards. Especially from your target audience. For me it looks like very useful for influencers'. Since they share their statistics occasionally to get some sponsors. It's already obvious just by looking at your dashboard but IDK just a thought.
