I created a curated directory for UX content. I would love to hear your feedback.

https://uxbrains.co/

It is my first solo project and I am really excited to share it with you. I got a lot of inspiration from the amazing people here on Indie Hackers and while my website is nothing special I am still proud of managing to launch it yesterday.

You can also suggest content, that you like and it will be added to the database.

Cheers,

Awesome collections! Love how you hacked together airtable grid views for the different categories of content.

Haha thank you! Glad you like it.

    This is great! Thank you

Hey Ulli, great project! Even though I'm not that into UX Design, I found myself very fascinated exploring your content. Do you plan to monetize the website in some way?

    1. 2

This is amazing to hear. Thank you so much!
Currently, I don't have any plans to monetize the website. The only thing I might add is a Ko-Fi or BuyMeACoffee link in order to cover hosting costs. But right now this is not yet necessary.

Cool! Good luck with the project, I hope to see you on Producthunt soon 😉

This is awesome. I'd suggest you upload this on Producthunt.

☺️ Wow, thank you. I am not sure yet if I am brave enough. But I will definitely consider it.

Congratulations on launching! We celebrate in the office some day. I'm super happy your project already helps other people.

Hey @ullsn this looks great and it is high value to me. Thank you!

Some Feedback: When clicking on top level blocks like Design / User Research, there's a bit of lag when opening new pages. Same with loading the full list from AirTable. There would be multiple solutions to fix this but I'm pretty sure you might be working on it already :)

    Few questions:

    • How were you able to aggregate the data?
    • What're you future plans for this? Are you aiming for monetization
    • I'm a software engineer, any recommendations for beginner design resources?

    Thanks!

      Hi Mukul,

Just use hackdesign.org to acquaint basic of everything related to design in a structured manner. Hack design is sufficient to get you started.

      Hello @mukulraina,

first of all: Thank you for the kind words. I am really flattered and I am glad that you got some value from the website.

Thanks for pointing out the lag. I will take a closer look at it today and hopefully manage to implement a solution that improves loading times.

      Regarding your questions:

I aggregated the data manually and completely by hand. I am working as a UX Designer since 2013 and over the years I bookmarked so many UX articles and videos, that I decided that it might be cool to a) Go through these bookmarks and mark my favorites and to b) Share them with the world. While the process of manually building the Airtable was somewhat of a chore, I am really glad that I did this since I am receiving so much positive feedback for it.

Regarding my plans with UX Brains: I don't intend to monetize. I have a relatively stable job that provides me with more than I need to live and I rather run UX Brains for fun instead of putting pressure on myself through monetization.
My main intention with the website is to give something back to the UX and Product community, who treated me so well in the past.
I also want to learn more about running my own little project, which hopefully will benefit me when I come up with more sophisticated solutions and products that might include monetization.

Phew, recommendations. I would always start by reading https://www.nngroup.com/articles/ten-usability-heuristics/ and then familiarizing myself more with the concepts that get introduced in this article.

http://checklist.design or https://uxdesign.cc/how-to-improve-your-product-ui-designers-checklist-58510947e6ab are great resources/checklists that you can use while building or designing your product.

Also this one here: https://medium.com/startup-grind/how-to-not-suck-at-design-a-5-minute-guide-for-the-non-designer-291efac43037 is a classic and might especially be useful for a software engineer.

I hope this answers your questions. Thanks again for your interesting feedback and your questions.

I'd like to know how you're curating the articles too. Or are these articles you found around the web that you found through search?

      1. 3

        HI @BenLau214

correct, those are mainly articles that I bookmarked over the years. I had more than 500 content pieces bookmarked and went through them manually, refreshed my memory of them, and copied the best ones into the Airtable.

My initial goal was to feature 350+ articles when launching, but I quickly decided against it in order to launch quickly and gather feedback before investing so much time in the project.
