I hate social media

You might say I'm not very social and you're right,- I'm an introvert. But Social media these days is becoming just a waste of time more and more every single day. I'm talking about both: personal and marketing perspective. Overall- I hate it!

Early days Facebook was encouraging marketers to advertise and get more likes on their pages in order to have own following and have traffic source literally all day long. Later on, Facebook's strategy changed and they've decided this is way too good to be true.
Facebook from the daily user perspective is full of junk, which purpose is just to keep you and me as long as possible on the platform. I rarely see posts from my friends, but instead personalized advertisements.

My Instagram feed is full of half-naked attractive women even if I don't follow them also cats dogs and all other BS, which is just a waste of time. Every 4th post or so is an ad.

Twitter became dead and no one even notices what I post, then the question is: why bother? I'm not even surprised accounts with thousands of followers do not post at all. There is a reason for that to abandon the platform.

LinkedIn is the strangest platform till today because during 5+ years I've got connections from strangers (most likely) and gathered about 9K people under my account. Yet no one cares if I post or other people post.
Disclaimer: I'm not looking to make a professional career or job opportunities and maybe that works pretty well (I don't know...).

Pinterest 5+ years ago was a platform full of women from the US looking for creative ideas. Nowadays Pinterest expanded to Asia. As you may guess now the quality of the traffic dropped down, plus every day I get message requests from strangers, who wish to sell me s**t or asking to repin their content.
2 years ago I was advised to use one Pinterest scheduling tool (I will not mention their brand for a purpose) in order to reach more eyeballs. Guess what: 3+ years account with about 4K followers was suspended after 1st month. Damn, I'm not gonna build it again...

All those fancy tools scheduling your posts and saving your time does not work anymore for me or I am blacklisted/shadowbanned on every platform (if that's possible). Facebook and other platforms are smart enough to see if you've posted from a scheduling tool or simply via your usual device.

Need more proof? Look at social media accounts with a big following. What do you notice? I see big accounts reaching 10% or less at max on their profiles organically. This is just a sign of how greedy social media platforms became during years. Now even you have made some sort of connection during a long time, you have to pay money for ads to reach them.

How do you feel about that, what works for you?

I agree with your thoughts @moneyroad. Reducing reach and increasing ads have totally made social media very sad these days.

However, I believe that it's not about any particular platform. It's more about the way people change and behave as well. We have control on what we do, so if we choose to block away unnecessary things, this very social media can be beneficial as well.

Even I spend lot of time on youtube, but I keep watching videos on product marketing and development. Now that's a choice that I make for myself everyday. So I guess, there are benefits to social media but only we choose to go after them.

Yeah, I agree that I should not be using stuff like Reddit, TikTok, and other things like that. I don't luckily. If you are a coder, you should use freecodecamp, dev.to, and stackoverflow instead. Those are what I use and they sure are helpful.

I'm not a coder, yet have some interest in learning linux. For a bit... Anyways thanks for advice :)

Hey man I have a question. I am playing around with the idea of building a social media that eliminates advertising, selling user data, bots and a few other problems. I'm in the validation stage and wonder if something like that would be interesting to you. I myself don't like social media and want to see if I can make a place where regular people can just share things and connect without having to be subjected to all kinds of dumb trash.
