I interviewed Wes Kao, here is what she said on how to become a master at shipping ideas.

• Don't fear starting.

  1. You feel fear because interacting with the market could result in a change your situation permanently (idea working/not working).

  2. You will start polishing, delaying, just call yourself out and just ship.

  3. You are scared? you're onto something great.

• Stop lazy thinking.

  1. Facts alone don't lead to action.

Example:
Light bulbs in this restaurant are cold and flickery.

  1. Insight about a fact.

Example:

Light bulbs in this restaurant are cold and flickery, it makes the room feel sterile and uncomfortable.

• Start rigorous thinking.

  1. Making a recommendation and a suggestion based on the fact and insight.

Example:

I recommend that they change the lights out for something that's warmer. which will change the ambiance of the restaurant, Which improves the customer experience.

• De-risk your idea before investing.

  1. list 100 people that you can potentially reach out to.

  2. Choose 5 people and send out a personal message to each and ask to test out your idea.

  3. Keep de-risking, take your learnings, your insights and incorporate into the next group.

• Product market fit.

It's a bullseye.

  1. Start with the bullseye (Your core believers/ early adopters).

  2. Saturate it before moving to the next rung.

  3. Expand to next rung, customers will have different needs and you might have to adjust your positioning, pricing, etc.

• Ultimate skill to acquire.

The End to End operator skill.

  1. You need think of the idea

  2. Have the vision

  3. Develop a strategy

  4. You need to execute

If you don't develop this skill you need to rely on a third party to make your idea a reality.

Examples 👇

Employee #1

Hey boss,

I think we should start posting videos on LinkedIn to share about our product.

I don't know how to make videos.
I don't know how to do a script.
but you know, there's my idea,

let's hire someone on fiver to execute it.

Employee #2

Hey boss,

I've drafted a script.
I use my iPhone, recorded myself talking about the product.

I edited it in iMovie, to be two minutes because they perform best

And I created a fake LinkedIn So I could show you how it would look like for the customer.
If our customers like these videos, then we can find someone on fiver who can help us execute faster.
