I picked a random product from IH and gave it a strategy for making $1000

Hi Hackers!
I remember being in the stage when I had to chase customers and beg for product feedback. It's difficult to get info to work with when you're starting out: small sign-up rates, no paying users, no idea if someone needs your product.

That inspired me to start recording weekly Startup Roasts, where I'll share my first impressions on random products from IH and give them a strategy for reaching the first $1000 milestone. I believe that if you managed to make $1000 with your product without running ads, you have a much lower chance of working on something useless.

In the first episode I roasted Hire in Public, the service which I saw a few days ago.

Main insights:

  • Don't put too much text together, split it into more sections. No one wants to spend energy reading big chunks of info.

  • If you highlight everything, you highlight nothing.

  • New solo makers don't hire as often. Makes sense to target pre-seed startups of 3-10 people, which want to make great hires and don't big budget yet.

  • First customers can be found through AngelList, LinkedIn, Slack, TechCrunch.

  • Look for startups which survived problem-solution fit and already exist for more than a year.

  • Someone should say "we were able to hire this great person through Hire In Public", then closing customers will become easier.

Upcoming roasts:

  • 3D Icon Editor
  • Feature management tool
  • Service for finding ecom products
  • Automation Service

What else will help https://hireinpublic.com/interest make the first $1000 profit?
