Hey guys,
This post is just a small announcement from me to put some pressure on myself to actually build what I want.
I'll start an indie project called Pecunia. This will be a clean and easy to use personal finance app in form of a progressive web application (PWA).
The target market will be consumers who are kind of conscious about their finance and already tried to log where their money moves, but it was tedious or too complex for them.
The idea is to share every step on the journey of creation, launch and how it goes after that. Basically I'm building it in public.
I needed a solution for managing my personal finance records. I tried to use Excel tables, different kind of web and mobile applications but none of the had the exact features that I needed, or they were hard to learn or use.
In the past I experienced with mobile app development with Flutter, so I found the first well-enough app design concept to model it, and created the first version of Pecunia, my type of personal finance app to learn Flutter.
As I didn't have an iPhone, I only uploaded it to the Play Store.
Users started to use it, they liked it and it had some positive reviews. But it was a pain in the ass to develop new features that the users requested and I had in mind, because of the framework. Sometimes the app just crashed and all the data that the user is stored on his device was gone. Pretty embarrassing.
I had a subscription based donation system though for people who wanted to synchronize their data in the cloud. But people didn't want to pay, maybe they didn't trust in the service enough, or did not see the features they wanted in the app in the beginning.
So eventually I stopped to maintain it, it wasn't worth the hassle to build any features into it.
I've worked as a frontend dev for the last couple of years. Recently I learned a lot about React, Typescript, Next.js, the creator economy, so now I want to turn my learning into practice and create some cool projects with my skills.
Reviving this Pecunia project is a perfect opportunity to build a nice and modern PWA. If I can't find the market for it, then at least I can use it along with my family for managing our finance.
I already built the project skeleton using Next.js with Typescript and Tailwind CSS. I mostly done with designing the main page, which holds the transactions list.
The next step is to finish the design prototype of the whole app without actual functionality and validate the viability of such app on the market.
I'm looking forward to get there. Wish me luck. :)
cool! good luck!
Thank you!
I'm very exited about your project!
I also tried a lot of apps for financial tracking and now I'm stuck with Google Sheets. For me, as a tech guy its OkK, but the most of the people want to see easy and "UXfull" app instead, and I understand their pain!
So good luck and I will look after your project :)
Thanks Andrey!
Just as you said.
The majority of the users who left review on the app said that they liked the clean and easy-to-use interface the most.
Good luck! I'm excited to see what you make since I know there are tons of people who need it.
Thank you Bobbyfin!
