I started to #BuildInPublic 2 weeks ago and these are my results!

Two weeks ago I was very reluctant to start #BuildingInPublic, as software engineer I prefer to spend my time coding than doing marketing, somehow I found a good reason to start with it

"What can go wrong?" After some minutes trying to think what could go wrong I wasn't able to find any reason to not doing it.

When I started https://viral-quotes.com/ I promised to myself to build it in a relaxed way, prioritizing the enjoyment during the process with no pressure, working at my own pace.

During those minutes of thinking, I said to myself: "Let see what happen, maybe it works".

My Audience

My target audience are mainly: small business owners, indie makers, digital marketers, influencers who wants to improve the engagement and expusure of their brands without spending thousands of dollars in PPC ads.

The Strategy

  • Sign up in 4 specialized forums (digital marketing) and updating my progress on weekly basis.
  • To use the hashtags #BuildInPublic and #BuildingInPublic on Twitter.
  • Create a "Coming Soon" landing page connected with Mailchimp.

My Humble Results

  • My posts were read by 546 persons, where 7 gave me great feedback, especially 3 of them which gave me a couple of feature ideas I've never could thought by myself.
  • I started my twitter account @castaneda_dev with 0 followers and now I have 6 followers.
  • I started my Mailchimp account with 0 subscribers now I have 5 subs.

CONCLUSION

These numbers are small (I'm aware of that), but I'm very glad with them considering the small time frame.

Two weeks ago I was reluctant to start Building in Public, I started from literally ZERO and now I have hard evidence that I took the right decision.

If you are overthinking to start building in public I strongly encourage you to take action, you have more to win than lose. Change your coder chip, being and indie maker is also about connecting with your users and understand their problem you are trying to solve.

In case you are curious this how I've spent my time these two weeks.
PD: Ignore the amount in $$$, I'm just putting a price of my working hours to hack my brain, somehow we humans tend to value more money than time.
