I Suck At Youtube And I Show You How

Yesterday I uploaded this video after debating with myself for a while whether it was good enough or not. It's just me talking as I show my software, no script no nothing. Just whatever pops to mind.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iD-u3w56SiI

So far (April 9th, 2021 07:21 GMT) I've had:

4.3 hours of watch time
2:20 average view duration (19:02 video length)

Few people have watched the whole thing.

This shows me that just filming myself rambling while I use my software is not gonna cut it. The video is likely extremely boring and not engaging.

So there you go! I'll change the approach and report back with the results.

Cheers!

    Hi,
What made me leave was the fact it had no introduction, no structure and no conclusion so I didn't know what value I could get by viewing the whole 19 minutes.
From what I watched, you're talking well, you know what you're talking about and the part of what you show looks good (so viewers would like to build it too)
From my point of view, some structure would help you increase considerably your watch time.
(oh and you could cut the OBS first second of the video)
    Wish it will help you!

Mhh maybe, a summary of what's gonna happen in the video right at the beginning would give you a better idea of the value that you'll get by watching the whole thing.

A bit of editing would help as well indeed! There's literally 0 editing!

Thanks for taking the time and making these suggestions!

Well there are 3 things in that sentence alone.

Inset video of you could help. Switching between views could help like switching between code, you on full screen, the slide etc (standard video editing stuff). Add va va voom.

Yess I guess my ugly mug could be of use there. I'd just have to figure out how to position the video without blocking the view of the software too much which is the important bit at the end of the day.

The switching I hadn't considered. I wonder if it wouldn't be a problem to keep users focused on what I'm doing.

These are some great suggestions! Thanks!

Two cameras or screen grabber plus camera to do pic in pic. I'm not an expert so someone else could pitch in with their setup but I think a bit of "production" could reward unless your content is super super unique and interesting that people come anyway like having proof of the holy grail. Dissect successful videos. Best of luck with it.

          That's gold right there. Thanks!

Forgot to add: if you have any suggestions please bring them my way. I have a history of taking those seriously.
