I was inspired to work on my website copy. Thoughts?

I've been reading a bunch of copywriting articles and resources (most recently the email newsletter by @harrydry) and decided it was time to rewrite my web copy for Bear Blog (https://bearblog.dev).

Here are my rationalizations for the current copy:

  • Put privacy-centeredness front and center
  • Illustrate why Bear is better than the current solutions (which are bloated)
  • Benefits (works on any device without building for it)
  • Adding a custom domain for free
  • Example (my personal blog)
  • Call to action

Feedback would be appreciated. I'm trying to tweak it as best I can over the next few weeks :)

I like Bear Blog! It's awesome to see how many founders are going in the same direction - just trying to simplify things. I think there's a good need for something like this in the current (content) market.

As a copywriter, I love how different your website copy is. You're not following the standard patterns at all, but keeping it simple - just like your product. That's a great approach!

However, I'd recommend emphasizing the benefits under a separate heading, and then listing them as bullet-points.

e.g. "Bear is all you need to build a minimal and optimized site or blog."

    [H1] Why use Bear?

    • Bear works perfectly on any viewing device.
    • Your posts and pages will be tiny, fast, optimized, and awesome.
    • Connect your custom domain for free.
    • No trackers, ads, and scripts. "

    Then add "View example blog"

below that something funny and catchy that will make Bear as approachable and friendly as it is, e.g. "Write something cool with your bear hands."

And then: "Share your first post." (or your current CTA, which absolutely works)

I hope I helped, but you've done a great job! :)) I'm definitely gonna try Bear!

    Hey Herman,

I think there's an anxiety that visitors might feel that you'd benefit by addressing, the anxiety of "will this be around for long?". Adding appeal will only go so far until anxieties put the brakes on the momentum.

I wanted to explain more what I meant, so I wrote this article:

To Add Appeal, First Reduce Anxieties
    https://sharpen.page/jtbd/to-add-appeal-first-reduce-anxieties/

You'll see further down I explicitly mention an example "Let’s say you’re building a new blogging service" which I wrote thinking about your situation.

Best of luck. Hope it helps.

Thanks for this. It's like you wrote about Bear 😄
I've addressed the issues you stated, but don't think I've communicated them very well, so will spend some time thinking about that today.

      Cheers, and great post!

Thanks Herman. Please report back when you make changes.
