I WON A GOLDEN KITTY 🙀😻
Last summer, I launched One Word Domains – a database of over 700K+ brandable one-word domains for indie hackers like you and me to easily find a name for our projects. In fact, I actually did a soft launch here on Indiehackers first before launching on PH, and I'm super grateful for all the positive feedback that I've received since.
In the last 9 months after launch, I've spent countless hours building out new features from scratch, dealing with customer support, and even reviewing legal & sales contracts – all while growing the site from under 50 users to over 3.5K monthly active users, 250 of whom are paying users.
Today, almost 9 months later, I am excited to announce that One Word Domains has been awarded the coveted Golden Kitty 2020 Award – which is the tech world's equivalent of the Oscars.
It's been a wild ride so far and this award gives me even more motivation to take this project to the next level – which I am incredibly grateful for.

But oh, it's a paid-for service ;-( I guess I cheat, having started one of the first domain companies back in 1999, so I know all the tricks to find good domains.
Is the monetisation going ok? Because I do wonder if you have the model right. You make money from selling the domains, so I would have used this tool as a simple free marketing hook.
Thank you for the feedback, Steve! I'm honestly still trying to figure out the right monetization model, so I'm definitely open to feedback – what do you mean by a free marketing hook? Do you mean using One Word Domains as a lead generation tool for another business, say a logo-maker business, for example?
He meant if you sold domain/registrations One Word Domains would be a good marketing hook to drive traffic for that.
I clicked to register a word I found in your app and it took me to GoDaddy I recall. I presume (and hope!?) you are taking an affiliate commissions from them?
If so then domain registration is your revenue (oh and ultimately do the registrations yourself rather than refer leads to godaddy).
In which case your really cool tool to help companies when they are creating their brand and need the domain to go with it,... well that is just free lead gen.
If it was fully free across all tld's a lot of people in the startup/venture/branding world would have you as their number one goto domain tool and be on it most days.

Ahhh that makes sense! I'm constantly thinking about improving the service and I might make some changes to the pricing model in the near future as I roll out new features, so I'll definitely take your advice into consideration! Thank you so much, Steve!
