I'll Do Some Free SEO for You

Hey,

Figured I'd try this out. I'm a Head of Content and SEO dude, and I just joined. Figured I'd introduce myself by seeing if maybe I could help someone out. If you're interested in a little help, I'll do a quick keyword analysis of your site, provide a few SEO tips for the main pages, and maybe write up an optimized title or two, if you want.

Edit: Hey, folks. Thanks for dropping by. This was fun. I'm afraid I don't have more time at the moment, though.

  1. 2

Hey, we are having this startup application called novalux which is helping people who love light novels read, write and translate them: www.novalux.io
    Take a look please!

    1. 1

Hey. Definitely start by making custom page titles (the blue strips of text that appear in search results). Make it so that people and search engines know what you do already before they click. One handy tool for that is: https://www.storybase.com/en/ctr-tool/

  2. 2

Hey there! I'm having a real tough time knowing what's a good SEO strategy for https://midnight.pub - it's a tiny social network.

I'm having a blog focusing on self-improvement so I'm curios what you can come up with :)

Hey. I like the idea, and overall it's looking pretty good. One more overarching area you could optimize is page loadspeed. It's in an okay spot at the moment but seems like it could do with some help.

Resizing pictures so they correspond to the actual size shown would likely have a big impact here. For instance, on 'How To Make a 2020 Vision Board For Students', the picture itself is 1000x1000 intrinsic while the picture size shown is only a little over 300x300. This means it page loads a far bigger picture than is actually necessary. Another thing you can also do is, if possible, compress them with a tool like: https://tinyjpg.com/

Also, unless you want to use Screaming Frog, which is an excellent program for diagnostics, a simpler thing you can do to check the shown and the actual (intrinsic) size of any picture on any screen is right-click on a picture and press Inspect at the bottom. A bunch of overwhelming info will show up, but if you hover over the lines in the top-right box, a little display of your picture should show up. There you can see the size of the image as well as the intrinsic size.

One way to easily resize any picture is to open it in Paint or a similar standard program and choose Resize. Try to make it fit the actual shown size as much as possible (and be sure you've stretched the screen and the image as far as it will go first).

Write me back if there's anything here that doesn't make sense.

looks cool, where do you get the illustrations from?

  4. 2

Thank you for doing this. Appreciate it. I'm looking for your feedback about https://remoteleaf.com

    1. 1

      Hey.

Overall things are looking quite fine. One-pagers such as yours aren't my specialty, I'm afraid, but one area you could focus on is the link-building part. It seems you're already doing some link-building, but the low DR of many of the linking domains isn't perhaps worth the time/money investment. If possible, try to focus on stuff above at least 20 DR/DS.

Another area that might reward some easy areas for improving is looking into keywords aside from 'remote jobs'. I talk about this in a little more detail below, if you're interested.

      1. 1

Thanks for the ideas. I found that DR is Domain Ranking. May I understand what is DS means? Any thoughts on how do we find the sites which is above 20 DR/DS?

Reg: Keywords other than 'remote jobs', like blogging with different tech key words?

        1. 1

DS is equivalent to DR. As for finding sites and looking up their DR/DS, Ahref is one of the best tools, but it is also not free. I'm afraid I don't really know any free ones, but I'm sure a quick google search should help.

As for keywords, I mean other searches and names people might be using to find sites such as yours. That would help you rank on more search terms.

          1. 1

Sorry for the delay, I got it. Thanks much for the explanation.

Stuff is looking quite good and professional. Some title tags might be too long. Consider checking the most important ones (here if you're looking for something manual: https://www.storybase.com/en/ctr-tool/ or run it through Screaming Frog if you want something more thorough — do remember to setup it up correctly with updated pixel length).

    1. 2

Hey. Definitely start by making custom page titles (the blue strips of text that appear in search results) for more than just the front page. Focus on a few other important pages, especially pages useful users other than the main function. One handy tool for that is: https://www.storybase.com/en/ctr-tool/

More generally consider looking into EAT (https://www.semrush.com/blog/eat-and-ymyl-new-google-search-guidelines-acronyms-of-quality-content/). I realize this is a very broad piece of advice and not immediately actionable, but when you're dealing with a topic such as medical advice and such, you're in a whole other ballgame than most other websites. Trust and authority is very important.

      1. 1

Thanks for this! I'll try to absorb this and will circle back.

I have an e-commerce store up and running for last three months, let me know what are your thoughts, www.ekatvacollections.com

  23. 1

Hey @ContentCoder thanks for doing this! I have one question. For my startup www.midweststreams.com we have a piece of embeddable code that our customers paste on their website. So far we have over 10k backlinks because of this. How can I leverage these links to boost my SEO?

    1. 1

Hey. I'm afraid my tools only display 25 referring domains. They could be wrong, though.

On how to best leverage the links, however, is content. It takes work, but if you do have that amount of unique backlinks, it means you should have a strong position in terms of holding rankings once you get them. By that I mean, your links are only as good as the content/function/whatever you have on the site to keep users either engaged or keep coming back.

That is to say, the links can indicate to the search engines that your site has a lot of value, but if the engagement and site visits don't correspond to that, the links probably won't be enough on their own.

      1. 1

Thanks! This is helpful, I'll focus more on driving people through the links.

  24. 1

oh man i would need this soooooo much.

    I'm making www.linksaber.com

It is an app/service where you save links to read later, and it sends them back to your inbox in a weekly digest.

I think i should go after pocket and instapaper users, but these are hardly people who search "how to get a weekly email with my read-later articles" or "how to stop piling up articles in pocket". I feel like they think that's just the way it is 🤦‍♂️

    thanks in advance 💌

    1. 1

Hey. You might be correct, which is why it might be worth it to focus on what people actually would search when they search for a service such as yours. There is an undeniable need for it, and there already exit similar services (at least I know of an extension that does something similar).

This is where a keyword analysis comes into play. First figure out what your primary broad keywords are (for the title tags of your main pages), such as, say, 'read later links' or whatever people might search, and then get to working cranking out content for the more longtail keywords.

Which is to say, how might you help searchers looking for something like the service you provide but they just don't know it exists yet? Make them find you by helping them.

      That's broad advice, I know.

Another thing you could do is just more content in general. The site is rather sparse, and the front page isn't particularly attractive. Consider juicing things up a little, making them more attractive and professional.

  25. 1

Thanks @ContentCoder! I just started learning SEO myself, learning by doing. And would appreciate any pointers.

I have a personal blog covering a variety of topics: https://knowledgeartist.org/

There are also articles I wrote specifically to rank for low-competition keywords (example1, example2 ) that ended up not ranking well, and I don't know how to troubleshoot them

    1. 2

Hey. As for the low-competition keywords, it can be dangerous to put too much trust in whichever SEO tool you're using. The competition might be higher or lower than it estimates. However, it is a fine indicator and a good place to start.

The reason I'm saying this is it's surprising that 'How long does it take to learn a language?' is a low-competition keyword. I would assume it's a fairly big one, but I could also easily be wrong.

The next step, unless you've already done this, is to check out what they competition, if any, is doing. In other words, do what they do, but do it better. How much are they writing on the topic? What about use of other media? Alt-text? Use of H1/H2s? How broad/specific are the title tags? How's their page authority and DR rating? Are they actively building links? And so on.

Essentially, why are they ranking? Is it just because they've ranked forever, or is there something you can do better?

You want to be better on every metric (while avoiding being the black sheep: https://diggitymarketing.com/stuck-on-page-2-are-you-the-black-sheep/)

      1. 1

thanks so much for the pointers! this is useful for helping me troubleshoot :)

Hey, folks. This was fun, and thanks for dropping by. I'm afraid I don't have more time at the moment.

    1. 2

Hey. Things look quite good overall. I'm afraid the best advice I have to give is probably also the most boring: More content. Which is to say, the site is slick and seems well optimized, but it is also somewhat slim.

By design, I assume. SEOwise, however, slim usually also means that search engines have difficulty either understanding what each page is about or ranking them over similar pages with more in-depth content.

Next step would be to try to aim for more longtail keywords (that is, secondary areas of focus and/or building up blogs or other content that aims to rank on more specific searches

      1. 1

Thanks for the useful advice! I’ll work on it.

Hi ContentCoder! I would love to have a set of eyes on https://www.autolytx.com. Cheers!

    1. 1

Hey. I'd definitely have a look at optimizing the page title tags and meta descriptions. Preferably do this on the back of a keyword analysis where you identify the primary keywords you want to try to rank on. This enables you to tailor each page towards one specific keyword intent.

A free tool such as Ubersuggest is a fine place to start: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/

PS: Research a little on search intent, if you haven't already.

      1. 1

How do you generate your content ideas using Ubersuggest?

  34. 1

Thanks for being awesome @ContentCoder - how can we help you vice versa?

Looking for some help in off-page SEO (is it the right term?) - curious to know how you'd make Virtual Mojito better!

    1. 1

Hey. Interesting banner. The page loadspeed seems quite low, so I would personally make this a priority.

Before that, however, I would do a quite keyword analysis (ubersuggest is a fine, free tool for this: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/) and manually write page titles and meta descriptions according to this analysis. One way you can do this is look broadly for your most important products/services, check what users search for and what they want to find, and then make website page titles, metadescriptions and some on-page content from this analysis.

  35. 1

Thanks for the help, can you try checking out https://newstube.live

    1. 1

Impressive site. If possible, some more overarching content on especially the front page would likely help search engines understand and place your site's purpose in the SERP.

It wouldn't have to be much, but something to help clarify what your site is about.

Another is pagespeed. It's a bigger field than what I cen get into here, and it's not a massive issue. But it is an area, if optimized, would likely have quite an impact if paired with a little keyword optimization.

  36. 1

    Hey! Welcome!

I'm curious what you think about my on-site SEO so far - https://pacely.com . Thank you! 🙏

    1. 1

Hey. A fine site; however, there doesn't seem to be much of an overarching keyword strategy behind the title tags and met descriptions. A quite keyword analysis (ubersuggest is an okay and free tool) paired with some optimized title tags according to the keyword analysis should have quite the impact.

Unless you already know about search intent, make sure to narrow down user's search intent and what they would write while searching for services such as yours.

  37. 1

Our website is https://www.tractific.com though I mainly want advice on our blog: https://www.tractific.com/blog/ Thanks a lot!

    1. 1

      Hey.

I admire the guts it takes to claim it's the most optimized blog on the planet. Rock on. Keep it up. However, optimized for what, though? Adding a keyword here should do wonders.

Also, resizing and optimizing pictures should help loadspeed. (Check out my reply to Vedeus earlier if you want more tips on how to do this).

    1. 1

Hey. Something that should have quite an impact is manually writing the page titles and meta descriptions according to a keyword analysis (ubersuggest is a fine, free tool for this: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/) and manually write page titles and meta descriptions according to this analysis.

One way you can do this is look broadly for your most important products/services, check what users search for and what they want to find, and then make website page titles, metadescriptions and some on-page content from this analysis.

As for writing the titles and meta descriptions, this tool is quite helpful: https://www.storybase.com/en/ctr-tool/

  38. 1

Thank for you doing this. I'd love to hear from you about : https://www.fsmpro.io/

    Welcome @ContentCoder.

As we have a Twitter Data Export & Analysis Tool, we thought that it might be good idea to launch Top Twitter Trends functionality to get more organic traffic. I suppose people interested in trending topics might be interested in our service as well. However, we have not optimised trends pages and did not invest much time into these pages. Out of ~70 pages, only several started growing slowly.

Feedback how to improve trends pages to start getting more traffic would be greatly appreciated. 🤗

    1. 1

You have a separate page for each trending topic?

      1. 1

Right now we have a separate page for each country such as Top Twitter Trends in the United States Today. It displays top twitter trends for the current hour in the country.

In terms of functionality and content, we are considering adding:

        • Filtering by historical data for each country (by date and hour). That might add a bunch of URLs (with date and hour) that we can mark as canonical to the main country page. However, I am a little bit afraid it could steal Google crawling credits from our main product.
        • Sidebar in the country page displaying top hashtags in the past 24 hours. That would put more content on the country page.

Would a separate page for each trending topic be a good thing? I think there wouldn't be enough content to display for Google to give authority for it. We might not have enough content on the current pages as well. What are your thoughts about it?

  40. 1

I can't refuse this offer, welcome to IH community!
My product website is https://incubatorlist.com. I am recently investigating why my Domain Score is low although I increase # of my backlinks & SEO is above average. Do you have any clue? I would also love to hear your feedback in general.

    1. 2

      Hey.

Your link-building seems overall fine, but the generally low DR/DS of many of the linking domains might be weakening the actual impact of the links. If possible, try to aim for at least 20 DR and upwards. Reserve links from lower DR sites for when they're super easy to make.

As for on-page SEO, while it will require some work, more content would take you far, I think. Especially content that helps users linger on the pages/site more and for longer should help grow your ranking as well as the DR/DS.

Another minor issue (though easier to do something about) is the length of some of your titles. Consider running them through a title tag tool (this is, IMO, the best: https://www.storybase.com/en/ctr-tool/). If you're looking for more in-depth stats, consider downloading and running your site through Screaming Frog, unless you already have. It's one of the best tools to diagnose all kinds of issues. It's free (at least there's a free version) and legit. Used by pros all over the world.

      1. 1

Hey, thanks a lot for such a detailed review!
I am fully aware of long title issue, but I couldn't find time to fix it yet. And I didn't want to lose some traffic coming to those long URLs.

My solution was to change those long URLs with shorter ones, and redirect the old URLs to the new ones, not to lose the traffic. And after a while, I remove the old URLs completely. Does it make sense to you? What would be your strategy?

        1. 1

That should be fine, yes. But keep in mind the difference between URL and titles (as in the blue text that appears in the search result). The title of a page is the snippet of text you see in the search result (and if you hover over the tab in Chrome and other browsers). The titles are the first thing search engines look at.

          1. 2

Sorry my mind went to URL for a while instead of title, because my SEO tool keeps saying that I should shorten both URLs and titles. I know that titles are more important for SEO, and I will fix them. Thanks again mate!

            1. 1

No worries. And best of luck!

It will be very great if you can help review this site http://sketchtowordpress.net/

    1. 1

Hey. I'm afraid one-pagers are far from my specialty, but maybe I can make a few general suggestions if you let me know some of your core services/products?

  42. 1

Welcome! That's a great way to introduce yourself. All your help is more then welcome, we just launched our new website; https://dienox.com . Would love to hear your feedback and/or tips!

    1. 1

Sure thing. You looking to rank globally or primarily in the Netherlands?

      1. 1

Globally! More focus on Europe in the start tho.

        1. 2

One thing you could look at is optimizing potentially too long title and meta description tags. At the least front page one seems too long.

This tool is quite helpful in that regard: https://www.storybase.com/en/ctr-tool/

          1. 1

            Thanks for the tip! :)

  43. 1

Too good of an offer to not take you up on. Here's my personal site: http://kashdhanda.com

Not sure exactly what will come back as I haven't done much SEO on it, but keen to hear your thoughts

    1. 1

      Hey, Kash.

First of all, that's a visually cool site. As for SEO, the most impactful thing you could do right now, if you ask me, is manually optimize the titles and meta descriptions for each page (at least for the important pages).

If you want, I can do a quick keyword analysis that can help you target the titles/meta a bit more. What would you say are your two-three main services?

  44. 1

    Hey,

It would be great, if you can please help us with SEO by looking at RemoteWorkJar.com

Please let me know how can we help you back! :)

    Cheers

    1. 1

Hey. I'd love to help, but I get the strong impression you're just here for the link, especially considering the heavy amounts of links the site has been getting lately.

However, on the offchance you actually are looking for help, I need to know which country you're based in.

We have no background in SEO or Marketing. We are coders, so we built RemoteWorkJar in less than a week and launched on 31st July. Until now, we have got no strategy to promote ourselves but we are just doing what we read online and make a sense to us.

We are also heading in the direction of attaching analytics and be part of the open startup community. We need to accomplish some technical work to put that analysis.

For now, here is our analytics as of today.

We need an expert opinion to tell us whether we are doing OK which will motivate us. Or, if we are NOT doing ok then we will improve ourselves.

        We are based in Singapore.

Well, for what it's worth, it certainly doesn't seem like you're doing poorly. Especially considering you just started a while ago. =)

Depending on the time you're willing to invest, more content on the main pages would go a long way to improve both rankings (so Google, etc. can better understand what each page is actually about) and user time spent on the site.

Also, while your keyword targeting in terms of 'remote jobs' seems quite fine, it might be worth your while to check and see whether people with the same search intent maybe also call it something else. Which is to say, targeting synonyms of your primary services might help.

      Hey

On an overarching level, there are especially two areas that should make a big impact: speed and titles/meta descriptions.

A quick PageSpeed test (https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fxgenecloud.com%2F) reveals quite a few issues, though most of them might take some time to fix. Optimizing pictures, if possible, is relatively easy with https://tinyjpg.com/, though.

As for titles, they're quick, fairly easy (if you have an overview of primary keywords), and are one of the most important SEO features. Consider manually writing titles (and preferably meta descriptions) for at least the front page.

To write titles, I recommend this tool: https://www.storybase.com/en/ctr-tool/

For a quick, free keyword analysis, this is perfectly fine: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/
