I'm 14 year old. I built my side project in 4 hrs and sold it for $2K within 4 days of Launch. Here is my Journey 🎉

I built my side project moodly.site in 4 hrs and sold it for $2000 within 4 days of launch.

I'm just 14 🤯 Here is my journey 👇️

Just one year ago, I was introduced to web development. I quickly discovered that it is my world. I started learning more about web development and Frontend. I learned React and Next JS as part of Frontend.

I realised that this was my passion and I should stick to it ⚡️

In my opinion, there is no better way to learn than by building. I started with small ones and built my way up.

Soon after, I learned about hackathons and got involved. My achievements include winning 4 hackathons 🎉

I became connected to the DEV Community and made many friends. They build my self-esteem up tremendously and are very supportive!

I have built 6 side projects so far. Whole community has been incredibly supportive and motivating 💪

I started paying my bills myself and upgraded my gadgets. I'm not a typical 14 year old. I have more dreams to conquer 🎯

Now, let's talk about my project moodly.site

A simple, beautiful, and functional project built using NextJS and vercel, Moodly helps you achieve better focus and relaxation through ambient soundscapes 🎵

Moodly stats 📈

→ 60K+ views
→ #3 Product of the day
→ 500+ Upvotes
→ 100% 5 star rating

Moodly was built in less than 4 hours. Here are the important dates 📆

→ Coding: Sept 12
→ Launching: Sept 13
→ First Offer: Sept 15
→ $2k Offer: Sept 16
→ Moody Sold: Sept 17 💸

I received money via PayPal and all transfers have been completed. I am beyond words to describe what happened in just 4 days 🤯

Looking forward to discussing this in the replies, I'd love to hear your thoughts on my journey.

Nice work Savio. Please can you share with us:

    1. How did you come up with the idea?
    2. How did you go about finding a buyer, and what tools did you use to facilitate that?
    1. 7

      Thanks for the questions Simmbiote.

      1. I read an article about boosting productivity through nature sounds. Then I visited some websites that did the same. I was not satisfied with any because they didn't had good UI or neither was free. That's why I built it my own.
      2. I put it on Tiny Acquisitions and buyer reached out to me.

I shared your story in the community tab of my YouTube channel. :)

This is so amazing! Congratulations! I can't believe you did all this at 14! I'm 30 and trying to get into web development. Are there any specific resources you would recommend to get started that are fun?

  4. 1

@savio - I love the gradient you used around the active sounds. Awesome job!

  5. 1

    Hey Savio whatsup 👋
Big ups man. I just wanted to know, did you use any frontend or backend framework? And did you use a tech stack?

  6. 1

Hi Savio, awesome job on this. How did you find a market to sell this ?

  7. 1

    Wow, congrats young man !

  8. 1

    Great work Savio! Congratulations 👏👏👏

  9. 1

What design tool did you use for the UI?

    1. 1

I designed the UI with figma as everyone does.

  10. 1

Great work! Tried to check moodly.site and AT&T internet blocked me with message - "Spam page blocked for your protection"

    1. 1

Oh, I'm sorry for that. I'm helpless here because all other use the same. I'll ask to switch browsers or try on incognito.

  11. 1

    🔥🔥🔥 congrats Savio !

    1. 1

Thank you dude! Means a lot.

  12. 1

Thank you so much, means a lot.

  14. 1

Amazing! I remember when I was your age, just getting into web development and how excited I was.

You've got a bright future ahead of you!

    1. 1

Thank you so much mate :-) Means a lot.

  15. 1

    Hi Savio! Congrats!

    I have two questions:

    1. from the 60k visits, how much was driven by PH launch?
    2. where else did you promote moodly?

    Thanks!

    1. 1
      1. I have got a total of 74k unique visitors currently. Out of that, just 1.9k is from producthunt. 31.2 from FaceBook and 17.5k from Twitter.
      2. I haven't promoted anywhere except Twitter and Producthunt. People who loved the product promoted it themselves. That's how I got a huge traffic.
  16. 1

Hey Savio, congrats on such an amazing accomplishment!

    Questions:

    • It looks like you got a lot of traffic from Facebook. How did that happen? Do you have a large following there?
    • It looks like you have a large following on Twitter and Dev.to ... is that also how you generated traffic?
    • Did you make any money from buy-me-a-coffee or your sponsor prior to selling?

    Thanks!

    1. 1
      1. I didn't even have a FaceBook account, people who liked my product promoted it themselves. Example: This was posted by largely followed facebook account that resulted in rapid traffic.

      2. I have promoted my product under my Twitter, but not on Dev.to

      3. Yes, I have made a total of $56 from Buy me a Coffee

      1. 1

Thanks for the replies. Congrats again and I look forward to seeing what else you will make!

  17. 1

This is really awesome. Congrats, man💪

  18. 1

  19. 1

Ohwowow! I used this service few days ago... Congrats.

    1. 1

Thank you so much mate, appreciate that.

  20. 1

man moodly is so cool, make it a chrome extension so I can use it more often

    1. 1

I'll surely think of that buddy!

  21. 1

Hi @savio, want to make an app for it?

You can find me on Twitter or email me anytime.

  22. 1

Yooo!!!! An ambient noise application YESS, I love this, thank you for your work and thank you for sharing!

Congrats on all your efforts, I find your story inspiring and humbling - Power to you!

Can I ask where you sourced the ambient sounds from? I'm actually quite interested in ambient / background noise platforms

    1. 2

Awesome! I truely appreciate the kind words. It means a lot. They're FREE copyright free sounds available online without even an attribution.

      1. 1

Cheers Savio! There's a vision inside me for a sound streaming platform in which part of the funds generated go to the custodians of the land which the sounds came from.

        1. 2

Mmm not a bad idea. I was thinking about streaming the private farm or bet something...

  23. 1

Dude, you rock! Nothing more to add...

    1. 1

Thank you dude, means a lot. Glad to hear that!

  24. 1

That's awesome! I saw it on Tiny Acquisitions and was considering buying it as well ;)

    1. 1

Yes, That's great. I put it on Tiny Acquisition.

  25. 1

Impressive - what did the purchaser want to buy it for?

    1. 1

He didn't revealed that neither I asked about it. I just knew him for 14 hours or less, so we didn't had much communication. I sent the source code and transfered the domain. He sent me the cash.

      1. 1

Just out of curiosity don't you have to have a domain for 60 days before it's open for transfer, did you just have it sitting around already?

  26. 1

Congrats @savio, looking forward to seeing what you build next 👍

    1. 1

Really awesome! Thank you for the great words. Keep an eye on my Twitter.

  27. 1

    Really cool 😎

Nice work, and congrats on the sale! 👍

    1. 1

Thank you so much. Means a lot ⚡️🙏

  28. 1

    That's a great idea!

    1. 1

I mean bills of amazon when I upgrade gadgets or buying an online product like an ebook. That's what I meant here.
