I'm considering trying to create a community in support of a "movement." Worried that I tend toward naive and overly optimistic. Thoughts?

The TL;DR version of the idea behind the "movement":

I believe that the way contractors/freelancers typically work with clients is broken and stupid.

You start with a CYA contract full of legalese (the equivalent of a pre-nup, really), scope out a full project (instead of taking a more Agile approach), and then usually do something like a 50% deposit up front and 50% at completion. Often invoices have net 30, net 60, sometimes even net 90 payment terms, and it's not uncommon to wait longer than that to be paid.

IMO, it doesn't have to be this way.

I envision a future in which work is more collaborative and projects are broken up into small phases, so the project only progresses if both sides are happy with the work and the working relationship. Phases would be funded in advance, with $ held by a neutral third party while work is completed - so it's fair and reduces risk for both sides. No more chasing invoices! No more legalese about late payments! No more "I have to keep working with this person because I signed the contract." Sounds great, right?

I'm building a product that would help people work this way, but I deeply believe that it's not just about a product. It's really about shifting the balance of power and changing cultural norms around paying independent professionals.

Am I crazy to think that others might join me in this? Is this something that I could try to build a community around? (I do understand that communities are a lot of work... and as an introvert, I may not be best suited to this work... but this really matters to me.)

What do you think? (And thank you :) )

I like this. It kind of sounds like what Airbnb is doing, in this case they are the party holding funds right ? (Obviously they get their cut and service fees etc). How would you address disputes if any? would the third party be able to decide? Would a very simple version of this be 100% money back guarantee ?
