I'm naming my company and I need your help

Hi, gusy!

I'm naming my company - we are building a group chat app for creators to interact with their followers. The app is mainly for building true fan audience and monetizing them efficiently.

Here are some candidates:

  1. Thrive
  2. ThrivePod
  3. Emerge
  4. Salon
  5. SalonChat
  6. Bitsalon
  7. LeadSalon
  8. Inspirit
  9. ChatPod
  10. BloomChat
  11. UpBloom
  12. Lounge1
  13. MixChat
  14. ParlorChat
  15. CosmicPod
  16. Sprout
  17. Chatvu
  18. ChatCamp
  19. ChatStack
  20. SpiritVibe

What's your favorite? or can you recommend something else? or please choose one that I shouldn't use :D

Good morning! When I'm coming up with a new name for a product or service, there are three main things I want to keep in mind: relevance in the space, availability of usernames and domains, and whether or not it's named after an already well-known company, regardless of niche, market, or industry.

With that last one alone, I am going to go against the grain and highly recommend against using Salon (it's a quite popular digital and print magazine here in the US) and Sprout (Sprout Social is one of the most widely used social media management platforms).

To alleviate the remainder, I recommend utilizing a tool such as KnowEm (https://knowem.com/) to sift through and see which of the brand names in your list of 20 are relatively open as far as domain registration and social media handles. I tested a few of them in your list, and was not able to find any that have available Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter handles.

When @kylekrzeski and I were brainstorming names for our Removaly data removal service/resource, that was something we tried to focus on, in addition to finding something that was name-relevant to our space. However, we still couldn't secure the Twitter or Instagram handles (yet) for "removaly" so had to go with "getremovaly".

    All the best!

Thank you for your advice! I was thinking about adding word like "go", "app" to get a domain name. But as you mentioned, I'm better off checking the tool.

  2. 2

    YumChat (YumChat .io)
    BeyondChat (BeyondChat .io)
    Chatish (chati .sh)

These all have available domains for them too :)

  3. 2

you need to bounce each of these off the available domains - salon is long gone, so is sprout. I would focus on ones that are the most descriptive of your offering and then narrow it by a mix of easiest to spell (if I say the name you correctly guess the spelling), shortest and "rolls off the tongue". There are a lot of online tools to find synonyms to different words and even company name generators. Keep playing with it till everything clicks. I would focus first on everything that has the word "chat" in it. It helps if the name at least partially describes the service.

  4. 1

Like some others have pointed out, I would aim for a name that conveys what the project is about. I would put less emphasis on the "chat" (not the main goal) and more on something like "fan" or "tribe". So here are some other candidates:

    • TrueTribe
    • TribeTalk
    • FanTalk

    1.CrowdFan
    2.Fanrific

Do you like CreatorRooms.com? I'd like to know what you think.

  6. 1

    this topic reads very interesting.

  7. 1

Love ChatStack. Emerge and Inspirit is good too.

  8. 1

    #4 for me - Salon

    1. 2

Isn't salon a famous news site though?

  9. 1

Check for trademarks and do extensive google searching to see how much competition you will have with the name itself. I'd rather go with my 3rd or 4th choice if it's totally clear from trademarks and google searches.

    1. 1

A good approach. Thank you for that!

  10. 1

    BloomChat looks appeasing.

  11. 1

    Chatpod looks easy to remember.

I once searched for a good domain name for a chat app, I dropped that project. Message me on twitter if you are interested I will tell you the name.
I dont want to put it here and someone buy it before you read.

  12. 1

    SpiritVibe looks good

    1. 1

I like that too, but my concern is that it's a little bit complex as a name. What do you think?

      1. 1

Yes, it's a good point but what's important, in my opinion, is the meaning.
If it can communicate what you have in mind it's a good name.
And then think about Facebook, I write it FB most of the time. So consider that with two-word names users tend to shorten them.

        1. 1

          Oh I see. That's very relieving :D

  13. 1

For me, the name needs to reflect the tone, target audience and most of all positioning in the market towards competitors and/or similar services in other fields.
Naming is hard, but it should be based on a wide range of variables. Would you want to elaborate a bit more on some of these things?
Good luck with the naming :)

The group chat app for those who share information through their contents - e.g., No-code YouTuber, Bodybuilding Coaches, etc. They of course have some fans like Instagram influencers, but their contents usually form on a specific topic.

      1. 1

ok! Of your suggestions I would go for Salon in that case :)

        1. 1

          Thank you for your opinion!

    1. 1

      Salon's great too. Thanks!

    1. 2

I like TrueFan. None of the others you list say anything about what the site is. Yes, it's a chat app, but it will probably be other things as well. And there are so many chat apps I'm not drawn to yet another generic chat app name. The uniqueness of this site is that it's about supporting creators you like, not about chat per se. I like TrueFan except it does sound a bit too sports oriented. So I was thinking of things like "WellDone" or "YouAmazeMe".

      1. 1

Oh that's a great point. I will embrace it!

        1. 1

TrueFan.com is for sale on GoDaddy (always an important consideration to know if you can secure the domain name)

    2. 1

I should consider that too. Thank you!

  14. 1

Modify 18 to ChatChamp like Twitch's PogChamp emoji :)

    1. 1

      Sorry but I don't get it :-(

  15. 1

Bloomchat- just loved the vibe of that name! 💯

  16. 1

    CosmicPod stood out for me.

    1. 1

Thank you for your opinion! Can you elaborate your feeling a bit more?

      1. 1

Something about the word Cosmic stood out for me in my mind compared to the others. The other ones felt usual or expected or normal while this was different

        1. 1

Oh! I got it. Thank you again!

  17. 1

    Inspirit stood out to me.

What type of creators are you targeting?

    1. 1

Thank you for your opinion! We're targeting creators who would like to share their specialized skills with others - such as lecturers and coaches, etc.

Can you tell a bit about how you feel when you see Inspirit?

      1. 1

It made me think of making a remote and meaningful connection with someone.

It's basically group chat app just like Discord. But it has native functions for creator and fan interactions.
