I'm "Taking Over" Someone's Twitter Account For Three Days - He Got 32 New Followers On Day 1

A couple weeks ago I offered to "takeover" someone's Twitter account for a few days and see if I could help them grow it.

I wound up choosing to do it for Nate Zeisler, who helps 20-something creators navigate their life and career.

He had 631 followers when we started and only tweeted sporadically.

For this "takeover," I wrote 15 tweets for him based on ideas he shared in his blog posts previously and answers to some questions I asked him.

He's posting the tweets, five per day over the course of three days.

I'm chronicling the whole experience including what I recommended he post and why, as well as the results he's getting from it.

At the moment, we're about a day into it and he's gained 32 followers so far, gotten a bunch of engagement, a few new newsletter subscribers, and even a response from an author he's long admired.

Here's the thread with all the details if you'd like to follow along.

Great one! Do you also measure the quality of followers? What makes them relevant to Nate?

    1. 1

That's probably more of a question for Nate than me in terms of how he measures their quality, but they're certainly all real people (no bots) who are interested in what he's up to and I know several have subscribed to his newsletter as well.

How can you be certain your own tweets didn't encourage your followers to go and follow him?

Also I'd love to know how you got verified with only 11k followers. I'd probably pay for that.

I'm sure my tweets have sent him some extra attention and it skews the experiment a bit, but my ultimate goal was to help him (and others who are following along) so I chose to optimize for that.

He's gotten a bunch of followers who are not following me though, so while the attention I've sent him has surely helped, the results are not solely based on that.

There was a time on Twitter (not sure they still do this) where anyone could apply to be verified and I did and was approved - it was a couple years ago.
