Interest in green startup ideas?🌳

🌳 I work in the wildlife, nature, and biodiversity arena & see tons of opportunities for indiehackers to make green products that save the world and make a tidy profit. I want to help folks find green niches for their next ideas.

📰 I’m thinking a newsletter (but open to suggestions) might be a nice way to deep-dive into some under-serviced green niches for indiehackers

🔥 If this something that you would be interested in, comment below. Also, if you have any ideas on the type of content you’d like to see, let me know.

This is out of left field but the damage the garment industry is doing to our planet is something so rarely spoken about yet every part of the manufacturing process is destroying our planet. So few people know this and those (consumers) who do, don't have many options to make environmentally friendly choices.

I agree. I’m a bit of an optimist, and so I’m hopeful things are going in the right direction.

We’re at this huge pivot point, where growing awareness of climate and biodiversity challenges is driving people and companies to change their behaviours (for social and 💸 reasons)

There are a ton of opportunities in fashion to support these groups in doing that, particularly around (with examples):

      🎓 Consumer education:

      • Simple sustainability metrics for fashion (like the colour system on food packaging) that helps people make sustainable choices fast.

      🤔 Consumer choice:

      • The drive towards a circular economy is a huge opportunity here. For example, Make it easier for people to make money from their wardrobes by renting out fashion.

      • Companies like Rent the Runway are making waves... but there are opportunities in targeting specific verticals.

      🧮 Manufacturing processes:

      • Measuring environmental impact is hard, especially when you start to look beyond simple climate emissions. There are ways to measure impact , but it’s often buried in technical documents and science papers (which are dry to read).

      • Build tools that make it simple for companies to see where their damage is coming from and areas they need to improve upon.

      • For carbon emissions this is a saturated market... but again, there are opportunities in making solutions for specific verticals, like fashion.

      • Also, there's growing awareness (and talk of regulation) on company biodiversity impacts... so early movers in this area could win big.

    💭 I’ll start. Content ideas.

    (1) Quick-read dives into specific solutions tackling problems/opportunities directly linked to sustainability, biodiversity, climate, e.g., biodiversity footprint calculators for digital brands

    (2) 5-minute reports into under-serviced micro-challenges and emerging markets linked to sustainability, biodiversity, climate, e.g., challenge: carbon impact of digital brands hard to measure or emerging market: payments for ecosystem services (paying landowners to be sustainable).

I love this idea. So kinda of like softwareideas.io but with a focus is on the environment. I am 100% interested.

You could discuss the impact of technology industry and food industry (agriculture and food retail) as well

Hey, nice ideas! Thanks for your thoughts.

Great to hear you would be interested! What's the number one thing you would want to get out of the newsletter?

Oh, also, do you read softwareideas.io at the moment? If you do, what's the number one thing you love? What's the number one thing that you'd change? 🎭

I am actively looking for business ideas /problems to solve within the realm of climate change and sustainability. It is a very broad range of topis so it can be overwhelming. Like softwareideas, Id love to read about companies that are currently in the space and ways I could create an improved spin off of their products and also areas that don't have as much focus, if there are such areas. I am mainly interested in developing solutions to help other enterprises improve their footprint and impact rather than consumers. Though I would still like to learn about ideas that target consumers. I just feel there are already many companies tackling the consumer side. I would love to learn about areas for improvement in different industries ...construction, logistics, transport, health care, retail, waste management, urban planning, carbon capture, renewables and the ones I listed above and the other commenter listed as well.

I used to read software ideas but I unsubscribed. I think it is useful but none of the ideas really resonated with me. I really loved how detailed the articles were and the layout.

        Hopefully this helps!

Thank you for your detailed thoughts - it's much appreciated. 🙏🏾

If I hear you right, you'd love to draw inspiration from existing companies in the sustainability space & get a peek into other under-serviced niches that you could build in (particularly in the enterprise side) -- is that right?

I would love to write about some of these things & I think there are a ton of great problems just waiting for indie hackers like yourself to fly onto the scene. 🦸🏽‍♀️

If I do write some material in this space, would you be interested in reading some of the early drafts to give your thoughts and help shape the content? 🤔

          1. 1

Yes that is right! I would be happy to read your drafts and help in any way :)!
