Is it a newsletter? Or a community? The trend towards community...

You all know I geek out on community building. 🤓

I was looking at Trends.co the other day and I noticed their main call to action button was 'Join our community'.

Interesting, I thought.

Trends

I remember from the Indie Hackers podcast with Sam Parr that they pitched themselves as newsletter.

I checked their homepage on WayBackMachine and it looks like they change their main call to action from 'Start your $1 trial' to 'Join our community' in June.

This is what it use to look like.

Old Trends

The rest of the homepage is the same, it is literally just the red call to action that has changed.

They've had this up for 2 months now. I can only assume it is converting better.

I'll be keeping an eye on it out of curiosity. 😊

Apparently a lot of successful communities started as newsletters (PH) or content websites (IH).

They post interesting articles, gather readers and then try making the leap.

    very interesting.

Trends is really a community with a newsletter / in depth research. The FB group is very engaged.
