Is there a community/services that talks about problems instead of ideas?

Most of the time you will try to think of a certain problem to solve to make something meaningful.

Do you know if there is something like a "hey I have this problem, why isn't there a app/service etc for it?"

People could vote that they share the same problem to get an understanding what problem is worth solving.

Yes and No. To gain real insight into a market, it helps to have an understanding of the industry/industries that make up the market. Typically, this insight is only gained through involvement. So, from an outside perspective, what may seem like a problem isn't really a problem, or isn't in dire need of a solution.

The problem I can see with democratized voting is that for 90% of the problems that people will raise there are pre-existing solutions they don't know about that currently exist; 9% will be due to user ignorance/error and maybe 1% will be something that isn't currently solved, but might be buried in a feature request stack someplace.

      You are right.

If you have no insights into the market it will probably not be a problem you want to solve, or should.

I asked because I am currently trying to find a problem in my domain but I for myself are not struggling with something right now. I talked to other people but there isn't much. Either I talked to the wrong people or I just have a niche where not many people are having real problems.

I feel your pain. Sometimes it feels like throwing darts blindly; other times, based on the info received, it's like throwing a dart at a wall and then painting a bullseye around it.

I would love to be part of this community @amax if it comes true.

However, it feels like a mindset to me. Sometimes, it's still hard to cut a fine line between problems and ideas. How about we educate people about the thought process of problem discovery and needs finding?

To be honest I made this post to learn if there are such communities already because I am trying to find something that I want to work on. I do not plan to build one right now.

Your idea about educating people is a great one! By helping people to find problems instead of ideas there could be quite the shift in ones thinking. What I mean is that I can imagine that by focusing on problems and finding solutions for them you suddenly stop seeing problems as problems but rather as an opportunity. So if I find a solution to my problem of finding problems I actually generate something that might be worthwile to share.

Not sure if this makes sense but that was great input Felix! Thank you 🙂

Voting might not be the best thing for these kind of problems. Since a voting system can be rigged. There are a lot of trolls. But I agree with the problem solving. I find solutions to problems all the time, but not the people I could share it with.

"So, from an outside perspective, what may seem like a problem isn't really a problem, or isn't in dire need of a solution."

That is also true, as well as people might not want to change certain things. A market place might be the wrong approach. How about a collective or a club?

    1. 1

I also agree with the quote from @c0nsilience. But this is also always true, when you find a problem you have to really check if it is in need of a solution and basically if there is a market for it.

Sure. But sometimes people don't know if there is a need for it until they have it. Just look at what Tesla is doing.

They are setting a new standard. It doesn't solve any real problems but it makes everything more convenient.

        Just think about this:
-Where you ever in need of a automatic smart summon?
--Well no but once you have it you can't do without it. Just think about your phone. There is no real need for it. You could live without it but it is just so convenient.

And that is why you need a group of people who can accurately identify real problems. Or you will get the "hoverboard" because it is cool.

What you could do is have voters in tiers so the more knowledgeable people have more impact, like Wikipedia.
