It's been a tough week

This week has been tough.

As much as I try to stay upbeat, energetic, and optimistic, I'm extremely hard on myself.

After certain life circumstances I dealt with at a young age, I expected more of myself during and after college. Do more, learn more, train more, work more, etc. This is how I survived and managed to get by.

It helped a lot, but it also took a toll on me, both mentally and physically.

This week I had to remind myself that it's okay to take a break, that it's okay to relax, read, sleep in, to work on passion projects.

So I decided to take the week off and relax.

Work can always wait. But our health should always be priority.

As a father and husband who's also trying to grow his business, I can't do anything if I don't take care of myself.

To anyone who also might be having a rough week/month/year, I hope you're doing okay. Just have to remind ourselves, it's okay to take a step back once in awhile.

It's so important to listen to yourself. We feel things are so important, but it's not until you take a step back that you realise that stuff can wait, your health can't.

Take care and resume when you have the right energy. ❤️

Thank you @rosiesherry, agree. Sometimes it feels like you can't turn off and soon enough you burn out. Appreciate it again.

Thanks @fredrivett, appreciate it. Agree, I have to stay healthy for the sake of my little one and family.

and for the sake of yourself

        1. 1

Agree. I probably should have led with that.

If you're burned out, you're not you.

It's equivalent to if you were sick or drunk or high.

What good can you do for your business if you're basically incapacitated?

Take a break, don't feel guilty. It's not only necessary but also well-deserved.

Spend this time catching up with your family.

Thank you, I really appreciate it and fully agree. I ended up taking a week off doing no work at all. Made a big difference.

        Glad it did.

I was sick the last week, but I tried to push through regardless because my to-do was getting so long, but I realized it was stupid.

If I need rest, I need rest. Can't be helped.

I think the key here is also to understand that mental health sickness (burnout, depression) is just as serious as physical health sickness, and shouldn't be brushed aside.

        You need time to heal.

And I'm glad you took time off to heal.

Taking a break is a smart thing to do. Although for many of us it's so hard to stop and take a breath. I wish you the best.

Thanks @tomastley, agree. It feels like we're always on. Appreciate it and hope you're doing well too.

    Yea wise words @onemanparty.

Staying in balance is the only way to survive long term as an entrepreneur. I've been doing my own thing full time since 2012 and a big part of how I've kept going is to avoid burnout and to know when you're currently in that state.

Walking every day, staying hydrated, working out, eating healthy, giving yourself actual structure around you daily work hours are all important.

You don't need to be perfect at any of those elements, but striving to achieve them all on a daily basis has truly helped me. 💆‍♂️

Thanks @wardsandler, really appreciate it. Agree on the burnout -- sometimes I just try to power through it. Always a bad idea.

I've been taking steps to mitigate it like meditating, reading, journaling. A big part of my life has been physical exercise through wrestling and BJJ. I think not being able to train has been a factor with all gyms shut down.

Yea I do jiu jitsu as well, def missing it a lot these days 😫. But yea been focused on walking, running, meditating, calisthenics, and yoga for movement and that's been super helpful.

Awesome to hear and cool to see another jiu-jitsu practitioner here 👍. It's such a great stress reliever.

20 years ago I practiced BJJ for a while. Yes, indeed, it's a stress reliever and the warm-up itself is so tough. Going out once a day to exercise (bike, running, walking with 3yo son) has been helping me a lot during these days. I hope you find your even through your meditation and be back stronger!

Thanks @Leo. Yes, I started to jog and work out again. I used to be a big lifter (former wrestler), but due to string of injuries I slowed down. I'm certainly looking forward to more yoga and running!

Cool. Take care of your family!

I just want to quickly say thank you to everyone who posted or upvoted. It means a lot to me, and admittedly, not having many friends in the entrepreneur space makes it a very lonely journey. When I visit this site, I'm reminded we all share the same goals, aspirations, fears and anxieties. So thank you. Hope you're all doing well, stay safe and enjoy the weekend.
