I've Interviewed Small and Succesful Indie Hackers, and this is what I've learned at 13 years old

I've interviewed a lot of Indie Hackers in the past 6 months, I've had the wonderful chance to interview creators such as Sergio Mattei, Marc from WIP, Yaro from Newsletter Crew, and So many more creators.

I've gotten the chance to learn some of the stories of makers, from their start to the end of their product. One of my favorites? Sergio Mattei.

Sergio's Interview was really special, If you didn't know who he is, he's the founder of makerlog. Makerlog is one of the biggest communities for makers, including myself.

He made makerlog from a product for himself, to a product for thousands of creators. When I asked about, how he made makerlog such a wonderful community, he said "I shared the community with people I knew, I retweeted and engaged with creators, and I grew a presence online".

Let's review that answer. Sergio decided to be open, and share everything. He also decided to be more open for creators. He decided to be what it's best, and if you see Makerlog now, You can see how well of a community it has begun.

Another Interview that made me almost cry of tears of excitement was Yaro. He made newsletter crew, a community for newsletter Creators. I just interviewed him, and Here are some of the points I learned.

I learned that

  • He works full time work and still works on Newsletter Crew
  • How to grow newsletters, by providing value
  • How he manages kids, and work

See what I'm hoping to show here, is that anyone can build anything. Yaro's Story is magical, and it's something I've learned.

Enough about the people I've interviewed though, Let me talk about what I've Learn.

When I first started interviewing people, I was nervous. I was worried and I was scared, See when taking interviews, you need to be on your game. Questions, need to be proper.

At first, I didn't really worry about my questions. I thought, just write and send. Which worked for the first 2 interviews, after that I learned it the sad way.

Interviews are a journey, they're not as simple as hey, want to be interviewed? Ok! Here are the questions, Oh here's the answers, here's the post. In fact, the process is actually like this.

Q: Hey, Want to be interviewed
A: Ahh, tell me about your blog
Wait 5 minutes
Q: Sure, makers rocket is blah blah blah
A: Oh, okay Yeah sure I'll have an interview
Q: Ok, What's your email
A; Here's my email,
Q: Alright.

You can see that it's not easy.

you need to build an audience before you want to interview big folks, the best way? I started by interviewing small and rising makers. By interviewing small creators, I got more insights, and an audience for a while.

As I interviewed more and more small creators, it was easier to ask someone for an interview. See, when you make a small name or make your blog in a community you're in, it's easier than asking someone, not in that community.

The way, I got marc's interview was from a just me dming him. I didnt join WIP, I didnt have any conenctions, yet I saw somehting.

See Marc, opened WIP invites, and for 30 day I got a chance to join WIP. That's where I first DMED marc. We chatted about the invite, he gave me one and we didn't talk. We talked some days later, and I asked for interview.

A few days later? I get a reply, and he says sure! Then we go silent for a month or few, and I finish the interview.

I feel this is a nice part to end in this growth post. I've shown the growth of makers rocket, which by having what I've said above, has let me grow makers rocket into something in one month alone.

I want to thank everyone.

I've already written this entire Thread, and I think I've wrote enough for now. If you liked this, let me know in the comments, and I'll love to write more!
