Landing Page Feedback

Hey fam,

I am Ansh, a junior student from India. I am building RealTalk, a peer support app for mental health.
I would love to have some feedback on our Landing Page from fellow indie hackers.
You can see the landing page at www.joinrealtalk.co

Specific pointers of feedback I am looking at:
Overall, how is the appeal of the landing page?
How clear is the messaging about what RealTalk is and what it has to offer?
Is it convincing enough for someone to drop their email?

Thank you for reading this far. Looking forward to your feedback!

Before I give my critique, I just want to say I think the app is a fantastic idea. Please let me give some pointers as humble advice.

    Appeal/Design....

Your design and typography need some adjusting for what the application's intentional use is. I think the landing page was developed on a 1440px monitor/laptop because the background image cuts off and leaves a gap on a 1920px wide screen. But I would suggest a glass UI that gives a feeling of floaty-ness, ease-of-burden, and anonymity. Here's an example: https://youtu.be/hnHFMLx4ZhU, but don't think you have to be so crazy with the colors. Additionally, the page is not responsive. Seeing how there is an image of a phone, it's likely that a significant portion of users will view this landing page on their phone. It's going to be difficult to get the proper appeal and messaging across without responsive design.

As for typography, you probably want something more rounded and inviting. Nunito might be a fit: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Nunito?preview.text=Helpful conversations with understanding peers!&preview.text_type=custom&category=Sans+Serif

See how the endpoints are more rounded and the letter 'o' is geometrical? Very important in this kind of setting. You probably want to stay away from serif fonts for the paragraph text: it's a little too serious. You can get away with one typeface with different font sizes and weights for the whole page.

    Messaging...

I think you're close. "Above the fold" is SUPER important to relay a message quickly. In your hero section, my suggestion would be to be a little more clear about the anonymous nature of the sight. You have good visual hierarchy, but the phone images' messages are not enough to tell the person right away they can say whatever they want about their emotional state without the fear of the rest of the judgemental world finding out. Their eyes will near immediately go from the phone to the headline.

I'd also put a little extra info near the email capture because it's not clear what it means to be the first in the know..."know what?" Why am I giving you my email? I personally know because I looking through the rest of the page, but remember that most people will be there for 5 -10 seconds.

Some sort of social proof there might be helpful as well. Not really sure what's going to apply for you. Maybe results from a trial run... Some sort of report from a study...

    Email capture/conversion...

I think just taking in some of my pointers and anything else someone might add, will get you there. People just want to know "I can talk about my feelings, and I don't have to worry about being judged." Both tweaking design and messaging will evoke those feelings, and you'll see sign ups improve. I'd suggest you do some A/B testing rather than just leave it to what anyone believes will work because users have unanticipated behavior. 😃

Hope the tips are helpful to you.

    Best of luck,
    David

Oh I forgot, I don't know if this project is for a real app or only a prototype school project. If the latter, A/B testing wouldn't really apply. But if you did some of the stuff I suggested and used that information, there's no way you would not succeed with it. haha

      Hey,

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback. This makes a lot of sense. I will definitely try all of this out and see what works best. I really really appreciate you taking out time to reply.
Also, as far as the responsive design is considered, the site is made on Wix, and Wix sites arent responsive. The biggest mistake I've made. However, I have placed it in a certain way that on all types of screens, users will be able to see all of the information.
I would love to connect with you outside of Indie Hackers as well. You seem like a great guy! Feel free to add me on LinkedIn using https://www.linkedin.com/in/anshagrawal/

Or, you could tell me the best way to connect with you!

No problem; I enjoy giving feedback because it helps me grow too.

You could try using Webflow to make that landing page. Since it's only the one page you could do it all for free, but I'm not sure if you're required to use wix. If not, Webflow is pretty intuitive to use.

I'll send you a connection request on LI.

The value prop is definitely there, but can you reword : 'understanding peers!'
I think this is too vague.

I agree with your point. I will work on this.

    Some feedback:

    • Very cool idea! Congrats on launching!
    • Speed: The landing page takes >2s to load for me. It also loads >4mb of content. Based on some research, load time can significantly affect conversions.
    • Layout issue: Picture is covering text? https://screenbud.com/shot/0d0dbe21-2cc4-4190-990b-543844e109a8
    • Fonts: You use serif font for content and sans-serif for titles. That's usually opposite of what is done because sans-serif is usually easier to read on computers (hence should be used for content) while serif can attract attention (hence can make sense for headlines).
    • Add profile pictures to the reviews (if the folks agree), it is shown to increase credibility: https://screenbud.com/shot/53035f74-d471-4d60-918b-94964f65d2c6
    • As a potential user, once concern to address would be how you prevent harassment (especially since it's meant for vulnerable people and since it's anonymous)

Hey, thanks a lot for the feedback. I will definitely take this into account and make the necessary changes.
The layout issue is a bug that I am trying to fix. For the profile pics, people don't want it up there.
