Launching Makko - Privacy Focused Web Analytics

Hi IH!

Very excited to announce the launch of Makko.

My business partner and I got sick of Google, Google Analytics, and the options available to us when it came to web analytics, which is why we launched Makko this month.

With Makko you can analyze your web traffic in a simple way while respecting the privacy of your visitors. We're lightweight, don't track IP's etc., and help you to be compliant with GDPR, CCPA, and PECR without any work from your end.

If you'd like to check us out, you can fund us at Makko.co

Thanks!

    Congrats on the launch!

Whenever I come across a privacy focused analytics tool I can't help but ask- what does it really achieve for an end user, website visitor? It's just a question that bothers me as a user, I'm all for privacy.

Because even if websites replace Google Analytics, Google can track visitors and their actions using search engine, chrome browser, YouTube, Maps and Google home.

Rest of the visitors are tracked by other giants like Apple (Safari), MS (Edge), Amazon (Alexa), Facebook etc. Together they have over 90% market share of all browsing data and Google alone has close to 90% search market share. So how this privacy gain really materialize for end users or is it just a market positioning?

      Appreciate the insights @Subro

When it comes to the website visitor I'd say it's a (small) step in the right direction, and it can help in identifying which businesses care more about you than others. I'd personally go with the guys who care about my privacy even if their neighbours don't (Google, Chrome, etc.).

Besides that, the tracking code we use is super lightweight, potentially improving on UX as well when it comes to speed however this would definitely be minimal.

For business owners there's a bigger advantage in that it helps them stay compliant with ever changing privacy laws. Especially when running a smaller business it's not something you want to have on your plate as well and knowing that base is covered is important to many (hopefully..).

That's great. How does it differ from Fathom or Plausible?

Thanks Chad! We have a few unique features that both those guys don't have yet, while in the future we're looking to "niche down" and see if we can add features specifically interesting for SaaS business owners.

Hey Hans, I tried to open the website but it gives a 403 Forbidden HTTP response

Thanks for the heads-up, we were trying to add a CNAME for our blog. Fixed it now! :)
