It's only been a few days since I launched the website, and the numbers are still very small. But I thought I'd share some of what I've discovered.
TL;DR There really is no consensus when valuing domain names.
One of my own domains is Glampede.com, a made up name. The poll is here: https://peerideas.com/vote/28. I deliberately chose this one because Estibot can't understand it and gives it a value of $0.
One of the features of the website is that it shows different poll types to different people. The goal is to get a range of opinions.
For this particular domain, I have had 13 votes so far, made up of 3 valuations, 3 star ratings (between 1 and 5) and 7 like/dislikes.
Out of the three valuations, 2/3 say it's worth $151-1000. 1/3 say it's worth $51-150. Fair enough, I clearly need more data to be sure.
This is where it gets interesting though. Out of the 7 like/dislikes, 6/7 dislike the domain. That's a strong signal. Similarly, 3 out of 3 rated it 1 star (drop it). 9 out of 13 negative signals is 70%.
Still, Squadhelp thought it interesting enough to list it with a price of just under $4,000. :-)
So who is right and who is wrong?
Whatever the outcome, this is a fascinating experiment.
