Local Newsletter Update #1: 29 Subscribers w/ Facebook Ad & Next Steps

Hello! Last Thursday I launched my local newsletter and over the past 4 days I have been running a Facebook Ad to help gain subscribers. I don't plan on this being the primary way I grow the newsletter but I figured this would be a god time to play around with Facebook Ads since I have no experience.

Here are the results:
Ad ran 1/14 - 1/18 ($10/day)
$39.97 spent
1,845 people reached ($0.02/person reached)
89 landing page views ($0.45/landing page view)
29 new subscribers ($1.38/new subscriber)

Conversion Rates:
Person reached -> landing page view: 4.82%
Landing page view -> sign up: 32.58%
Pearson reached -> sign up: 1.57%

Next Steps:
I hear that running giveaways can reduce the cost to acquire a subscriber pretty dramatically so my focus this week will be to run a giveaway with a local restaurant. I am going to spend the same amount of money and keep the targeting the same to compare results.

In addition, I want my primary subscriber acquisition channel to be referrals so I am going to set up a referral program and launch that this week. I am going to do it a tad differently then a lot of the big newsletters do. Rather than points to redeem for prizes, I am going to do one giveaway a week that is just for subscribers, like a raffle, and the number of referrals you have is the number entries you get each week.

Goals for the week:

  1. Launch giveaway Ad
  2. Launch referral program

I will do another update next week to let everyone know how this week went, have a great Monday everyone.
