May I have your honest feedback about my latest side-project ?

FastestNotes.com - A keyboard first oriented app for projects, tasks and notes.

It has been almost a month from the official launch of FastestNotes.com v1.1.

Until now I've got 20+ users, but only manage to get 2 users's feedback about the app. I feel that I'm doing something wrong and I would like to correct it ASAP.

Would it be possible for any colleague IH to check and provide an honest feedback about FastestNotes app ?
I would be glad to return the favour for your startup or side project.

Thank you!

I think it is way too niche (basically targeted to heavy vim users, at least that's the impression the video leaves me) and it doesn't really solve a very urgent need, I think it is at best a "nice to have". I don't really see a case where somebody stumbles upon your product and says "Thank God! Finally found something to help me with X". What is the X? I never heard somebody say "man having to use the mouse to manage my todos and notes is killing me, I wish there was something only keyboard based".

The space of todo apps and task managers is very over saturated and its not something people do all the time. You switch to your app maybe a few times per day for at most 30 seconds to note something or update a todo. Also the productivity app spaces are also very saturated, and people doesn't really use them long term.

Sorry if the feedback seems too harsh. I think you need to pivot toward another market.

      I second this.

I take a lot of notes actually, in Trello, Workflowy and pure texteditor. I never had the problem of it being slow. Especially Workflowy is super good to use with just the keyboard.

I watched the video and still don't get why I should use it. This might be because it really is not an interesting product for me or I just don't understand it fully.

OP, can you explain a bit more why this might be useful to me/us?

      1. 2

Tank you @Badestrand for ur feedback! This is a niche product. I had to scratch my itch.. It is not for everyone, but for those who use keyboard a lot it can be quite interesting. The learning curve is 10 mins at most.
        Thanks again!

If it's so short, you might want to emphasize it somewhere on the landing page. Also, the video is kind of ugly. Idk how much work it would be, but it looks like a web app, so rendering the tool on the website directly and controlling/demoing it via javascript would look pretty cool. I really don't know if it's worth the effort though, probably not.

Well thanks a lot... You have made me see something new I NEED to implement in my workflow. Workflowy really seems great!

Thanks Vlad. Finally, I'm getting something in terms of feedback.

As you said this is a niche product. I scratched my itch! I do not expect everyone to understand how useful this product is and I'm being honest.

Also I expected from this community to be less 'No Code'... Looks like I'm addressing to worng audience.

Again, thanks for ur feedback, with love from same country (RO).

      Numai bine, Vlad!

Thanks for taking the time @anilkilic.

          Please excuse the frustration.

The idea was not to copy other apps.
I've implementation my own solution to solve the problem I've identified with other apps from same field.

Btw, Taskbook has similarities, but it's not the same thing - I will be more specific on the landing page.

Regarding Loom I'm still looking at alternative solutions that can produce smaller GIFs rather than videos.

Bottom line, I will redo the landing page to make more clear the use cases the solution is covering.

PS. If you'd like I could provide feedback about one of your apps in return of the favor.

I loved the flow of the application. The new style of gamification just makes me fall for it. You added keyboard keys to almost everything and that's awesome. Try adding more screenshots and explaining the USP on homepage.

    1. 1

Much appreciated feedback @digvijay! I will redo completely the landing page.
      Thank you

For everyone that gave feedback, I'm gonna review ur products and provide honest feedback. So far, thanks @vladcalin, @Badestrand, @jdles and @hatkyinc for ur feedback!

    Best!

I left a comment under leftcalin's reply already, but now I also briefly tried the app. I am on mobile and this might be no surprise to you, but it's not working well here. Creating a project by typing out "project" is the opposite of fast. After creating the project I can't figure out how to proceed or what I should do next. The help command doesnt work. My Google Keep note taking app is so far a million times better. Sorry for the harsh feedback.

I know this is aimed at desktop users but for me this would be disqualifying because I want to at least be able to also take notes on my phone, on the go, in the train, when in the bed, whatever.

You might also want to use Inspectlet or similar tools to watch exactly how your users are using your app (if you dont already).

I am happy to answer any followup questions or try again if you improve something.

@Badestrand, thank you again for trying out. It is intended for desktop, as most devs work on this environment. It was on roadmap to add mobile, but looks like this is not going to happen.

      Again, thanks for ur feedback!

      1. 1

Okay, and sorry if I was too harsh :)

I now checked in on desktop and I get it better now.

I want to make one concrete suggestion: I think you need to explain the app a bit before people use it. You know how it works already but image someone to your website and just seeing it is a "note taking" app: "Take notes, create projects & tasks the fastest way".
For example, my expectation was that I can just create whatever notes, but actually the app enforces a certain format (there are projects, which have tasks, which can have notes?). So you can not just write down notes however you like. This is not bad but how can a user know? Currently they can discover it only by trying things in the interface. The demo video doesn't give away too much either.

So my suggestion would be to frame it differently. Maybe something like "lightweight, keyboard-focused task manager"? And then shortly explaining the structure, with the projects and tasks. I still don't fully get it so I think currently it is not so easily discoverable from the interface.

And congratz btw for shipping, I know how hard it is to get something out there and ask for feedback!

        1. 1

Amazing feedback @Badestrand ! Thank you a lot, this is really nice from you.

You are absolutely right about the flow, I thought that video would suffice.

I will give it another try and redo the initial landing page entirely.

Please let me know how may I return the favor. I didn't find any apps on your IH page..

          1. 1

Ok so if you have the time I would love to get feedback on the value proposition of the app I am working on. Don't hold back, be honest please.

            https://togetherdb.com

I would love to know how appealing you find this. Is it like "meh, don't need it" or rather "wow I would love to use that"? And if you can put your finger on it, what would be a blocker to using it or what could it have so that you would love it?

            Big thanks in advance!

          2. 1

Ok thank you, I am currently updating my landing page, then I will ask you for your feedback on it :-)

Hey, it looks good! Here are a few ideas from a marketing perspective:

    • Help your audience understand who is the app for
    • Be more obvious on the call to action (Try it free now vs. Give it a spin)
    • Come out with a few use cases based on your target audience
    • Answer the question "why is this for me". For example, I already use a note app like Evernote, so why would I change? Why not? When?

Hi @jdles and thanks for ur feedback!

    • why am I staring at a person with checkboxes? Don't get me wrong, he's good looking
    • The texts in the video are so tiny, can't read anything on mobile
    1. 1

@hatkyinc thank you for your feedback.

      1. My front-end skills are limited. The good looking guy with checkboxes is an impression for tasks creation, work and done.
      2. Great feedback. On desktop it looks good in my opinion. I need to change this.

How about the app ? Have you got a chance to use it ?

      Thank you
