Month 1: Building a Newsletter Anonymously

Stupid Evernote. I refuse to pay for it. This is coming from a guy who just sold his SaaS startup to a private equity firm late last year. I guess cheap habits don't change even if you have money. Look at Warren Buffett!

Anywho, I like Indie Hackers so I'm going to use this platform moving forward as a way to just dump my thoughts somewhere. I don't actually expect anyone to read these, and it's more so just to document my own journey longer term to see if I succeed or fail miserably.

After selling my startup, it made me realize that I probably never want to do another startup again, especially one on a venture path. It's just not me. The whole journey is just incredibly stressful (but is rewarding too). It's conflicting in all honesty... just depends on your life stage I suppose. But the reality though, is that trying to make a unicorn is just not my vibe... and that's okay!

So, now that I have time and money on my hands, what's next? It's been 4 months post sale and I'm already bored out of mind! That is such a privileged thing to say but I'm lucky. My immigrant parents gave me this opportunity to pursue my interests and I am eternally grateful to them. Thank you mom and dad.

Anyways, I know for sure I want to start a "lifestyle business" (such a dirty word in some circles 😂 🤷) but that is what I want.

What that idea is? No clue, might change.

But so far, I have some very very very tiny traction going on with these static "data visualizations" of comparable stocks on Canadian Stocks I make. I'm doing it anonymously for now, not sure why, just sort of want to keep a low profile for now I suppose.

It doesn't make sense, I know. You should leverage your networks for this kind of stuff, yadda, yadda. I'm just being stubborn. I'll change my mind slowly... maybe.

In any case, on a weekly basis, I sort of document my thoughts in Evernote, take a read if you are interested. Nothing amazing. I'll see what next month brings. 😂

    Just read it. 😇

I felt the same way when I achieved what I previously wanted in life (time and money). I hope your project gives you enough excitement to not get bored. It's a tricky situation where we reach what we wanted and now what ?!?! I felt an emptiness that was not fulfilled for a long period of time.

Leo, your article rings so true for me. Thank you for sharing with me.

I think that's what I've been struggling with, emptiness. I'm not depressed or anything, but I think it's hard to go from "always on" to "mostly off".

You are definitely ahead of me in terms of life goals (having children, etc) but your post has helped give me some direction. Helping people is 100% gratifying so maybe I'll start finding things like that to do now. 😊
