Moving from Trello, searching tools for planning

Today after reading the conversation on issues about Trello handing over personal accounts to companies, under wrong SSO claims, I decided to move everything from there and use another tool for planning and project management.

I hate companies favoring companies over individuals, forgetting who they owe their success in the first place.

So exploring new tools, started from here. Remembering from his post from last week, my first item on the list is Simpletasking from @steban

But this was the only one, my search here didn't come up with any other. Also, it was really hard to explore without any navigation system for this here. Search only provides results for discussions and users, not products. :/

Finally found proper search: indiehackers.com/products

@AymericG added Week Plan which promotes as priority planner for highly effective people. Watch this 2-minute video to understand what Week Plan is about.

Some open-source alternatives I stumbled in the comments, here and on HN.

⚡️ WeKan
⚡️ Redmine
⚡️ Clikan
⚡️ Kanboard

Notion of course is a lead alternative. Which is already a tool I'm using, mostly for personal stuff and really enjoying it. Now considering also for work planning, maybe it is time to put together everything in one place.

From my early bookmarks;

⭐️ Toggl Plan
Free for small teams. 14-day free trial for premium features. Toggl have a great design approach to all of its products, with solid UX design in general.

⭐️ Clubhouse
A free tier with unlimited core features, and a well-designed user interface. I'll explore more.

⭐️ Yodiz
Simplified planning, painless tracking and smarter insights. Starter pricing, free for up to 3 users, with unlimited projects.

⭐️ Basecamp
Actually this is one of the earliest I used, all before Trello. But it was in its first days and didn't stick. But clearly improved. It has a free personal plan; 3 projects, 20 users, 1 GB storage space.

⭐️ Asana
From projects to tasks, conversations to portfolios it has many features. But as it is very detailed, it can be complicated for someone with basic project management needs or using kanban boards. have a free basic plan, up to 15 teammates, including all views.

⭐️ ClickUp™
They have all, to-do lists, project management, docs & notes, spreadsheets, email & chat, events, reminders, goal & time tracking, screenshots and recording. I'll giving it a try but this is too much for my needs.

Do you have any experience with these tools? or other from our community?

    What are your requirements?

I run https://weekplan.net which helps people better organize their time. I have been in the field for a while and might be able to give some advice.

Just watched your video, unique approach, great for busy business people, like CEOs and people managing their schedules. But very detailed for my work life and needs. I like keeping things simple and less time consuming when planning design projects with clients. Basic task tracking, to-dos, and kanban boards is alright with me.

Our engineering team of four has been using Clubhouse for the past few months and I recommend it if you have more than one project to manage. We outgrew Trello but didn't need something as heavy as Jira.

Hi what about Asana? I never used to like it, until they introduced the ability to view in both list and board views. Furthermore you can add a task in 2 different projects. Another alternative is clickup.

Asana is also a good choice, very detailed and has many functions. Also free with a basic plan, added to the post. Reviewing ClickUp right now, seems also good.

Me too, really good product with a modern user interface.

We use Basecamp for MemberSpace and love it. It's super flexible and allows you to cover almost any use case you want. I'd give their free plan a try 👍

Thanks, I'll def giving Basecamp a try.

I just recently started using Notion and I have to say it's an amazing tool. I've been using it for waaayyyyy more than I expected to when I started.

I haven't tried using their kanban style boards, but I plan on trying them out soon.

I started with Notion a couple of days ago after seeing the increasing love for it. It's a great tool and goes far! If I had a stronger desire, I'd drop Basecamp right now and go to Notion more exclusively. Though, too much stuff to port over and unfortunately no biting need at the moment.

I tried using Notion some time ago. But for me, it was a nightmare. From the very beginning, I could not register, confirm, and login the account, every step was a challenge, so the moment when I finally open the dashboard or whatever, I hated the product, closed the browser app and never open it again.

Amazing, indeed. I removed couple of apps, like my oldest note-taking king Evernote for Notion. Right now on my list, it is also leading choice for kanban and all.

Thank you for the mention @boraoztunc! We are launching our multi-project management platform in 3 weeks.

👌🚀Good luck with the launch, don't forget to add here as a product so we can catch up with the updates.
