For the past several months, my most popular post has been on the top all-time section for IH posts.
The last time I checked the all time list was a couple days ago and - like usual - it was around #4 or #5 on the page.
However, I just checked and now it's not there. Don't worry, I went to the next page, and the next, and the next.
It still doesn't show up.
I check to make sure the post is still up, it is.
Has the algorithm been changed?
It can't have been because it became unpopular. It's not like it went down one or so everyday, it just disappeared.
@csallen or anyone else, do you know why this might've happened?
Now, I'm not mad or anything. It's totally fine if it was time to move on, I jsut would like to know what considers a post "popular" now for the future.
Thanks!
Yeah, I changed the algorithm to favor upvotes over comments. Previously it was a simple
score = upvotes + comments
equation, but now it's more complex.Mostly I did this because the same kind of posts keep making it to the top of the homepage ("everybody comment with X and I'll do Y") which gets repetitive and thus boring for long-time readers. One side effect is it ended up reshuffling a lot of posts in the all-time best lists.
Got it - thanks for letting me know Courtland. That does make sense.
Have a great weekend!
